Saw this on Facebook this morning, made me think of this thread...no I don't this person.

This is Josh. I don't know Josh, but saw a post of a happy Josh after he found a snake. Josh didn't know what kind of snake he'd found, but decided to pick it up anyways. An hour later, Josh posts a picture of himself in the Emergency Room because the snake he picked up was a venomous #Copperhead.

Don't be a Josh! If you can't say 100% that you know *exactly* what you're picking up, DON'T pick it up!

I was burning some cardboard boxes in my fire pit the other day since we finally had a decent rain, and I sense some motion in the juniper tree above my head, and there is a 4 foot rat snake slithering about the end of the limb just about 3 feet above me. Looks like he had just checked out an empty nest a couple of feet further up and the fire drew its interest. Funny part it is was the exact same snake I photographed a week earlier on my fence. It had a very unique injury scar a little behind its head I had noted before. I reached up and poked it with my fingertip and that seemed to startle it a bit, but it hung around a little longer before slithering back up the limb.

Other than that, just the routine copperhead in the traps every 2-3 days or so.

It looks like a highly venomous sea snake. Probably visiting Arkansas to get away from the great white shark snakes.

Not positive but I am pretty sure you're correct. It's very likely a juvenile in the Northern Water Snake family.

I have only seen and caught one in the wild, so my knowledge is pretty limited. I'll defer to 12fmane or Badace for confirmation.

Since without zooming in and on a mobile device, the snake in your picture looks somewhat similar to a banded sea snake, I stand by my dumbass comment.

This thread is full of comments, other than "photo, snake id; photo, snake id".

I like humor and sarcasm to break up the monotony. but to each his own I guess. I don't see where this or any other in the last few pages derails the thread.

Eh, in general I have no issue with the comments made. I also have no issue with the yearly addition of the marijuana snake picture. It's just not something that I think should be the norm.

I didn't say THEY were funny, it wasn't funny!

I saw a snake below Broken Bow Lake, in the first section of river before the last bridge up to the dam. I was surprised a snake could just hang out in colder waters like that but I guess they're acclimated to it being a water snake. This was last fall I believe.





Trying to zoom between the two it looks like the pattern could be similar?

Nah don't worry about that. I was just amazed someone could say round eyes on a snake from that picture. Looked like slightly out of focus raisins to me.

I've tried to take pictures of snakes before for this thread. I ain't getting close enough to get a good shot.
