A dead _________ that shouldn't have died is the answer. My guess is water snake due to vertical lines on mouth.

Dead snake. I believe that is a plain belly water snake. However, I'm not that great at distinguishing between the different varieties of non-venomous water snakes. It's 100% a non-venomous water snake.

PBWS or could also be called a blotched water snake
Looks like I still need to work on my education of the different water snakes. PBWS have been getting me lately

Nerodia erythrogaster... That one most people would either call PBWS or YBWS

Thanks! My neighbor's 3 year-old plays in the area a lot so he was worried but glad to know it's harmless.

Burmese pythons, among others. Tegus. Nile crocs. Caiman. African Rock Pythons. Anacondas. Reticulated Pythons. Among other invasives. The 'Glades are messed up. Over 20% of all species are invasive.
Holy cow (imported from India of course).

I've read some stuff that those invasive species have had a devastating effect on a lot of the native species such as birds, rabbits, squirrels, etc that play a big role in the food chain. They're now finding pythons in the Keys and advancing as far north now as central Florida.

I'm in no way sure about this, but the faint pattern and small white dots along with that head/body shape would suggest rat snake to me. They look very different in Oklahoma than here. It is kind of an intergrade coloration between the Texas rat snake and black rat snake subspecies phenotype.

I will say though, the head doesn't look right. It looks more like a coachwhip head. Coachwhip is a real possibility too.

Thanks txags92! Been living here 6 years and never seen a snake. Then two different ones in the last 24 hours. Odd, but I'm glad they aren't dangerous.

I think you may be right on the rat snake. Here's the Western Rat Snake pic from the oksnakes.org website:

Just following up with stats from the South Florida Water Management District python removal program. Remember, these are numbers from the agents and only represent a fraction of the actual numbers.

I still can't wrap my head around the notion of a snake eating an alligator - let alone a few of them. Hey look at that giant armored muscle with giant teeth, I think I'll go wrap myself around it and eat it. I have seen the images but it is just a WTF concept to me.

I've seen various videos of big snakes and gators. The same principle applies to their prey. They suffocate them. Then eat head first. They must some really strong muscles to choke the life out of them but they do. Also takes hours from start to finish.

I'm sorry for the blood but it was on my front door step this afternoon. Didn't give me much choice. Pretty sure it's a prairie rattler, right? I have a friend that was bit by one. Measured 32".
