If any of you professionals want to come to our farm in Colorado County, I'll turn you loose around our place. I think I've seen over 20 copperheads since March 18th not to mention 4 other species including a moccasin.

I'm pretty sure I've found their nests.

I've killed one copperhead because it was right by where my 4 year old was playing.

I'd be happy to pay to relocate these *******s. There are tons around the homestead.

Sounds like a fun time! Just be careful on how many someone transports:

Quote:

No person in this state may possess more than 6 specimens of a single kind of nongame wildlife or more than 25 specimens of nongame wildlife with- out a valid nongame collection or nongame dealer permit. A valid nongame collection permit is required to sell nongame wildlife. A valid nongame dealer permit is required to resell nongame wildlife. Nongame collection permit holders may only sell to licensed nongame dealers. Nongame collection permits can be purchased from any vendor where hunting and fishing licenses are sold. Dealers must apply directly to the Wildlife Permits Section. Annual reporting requirements apply.

And another one... this one was a juvenile but I heard my wife yell. They are all by the house and barn/sheds.

I'm so tired of stepping over them, this one was killed.

She took off her other shoe and sock! Obviously didn't know the snake was there but how likely are snakes to strike again vs flee?

There are experts on here that know more than I do, but copperheads aren't very aggressive. It struck her because she stepped ON it. The fact that she didn't ever see it even though she stayed in the area for a while seems to indicate it hauled ass, which is what you would expect from a copperhead. I'm sure if she stepped on it again or came close, it would instinctively strike.

A cottonmouth, on the other hand, would have struck her then danced in her face and taunted her.

My kids caught one the other day and kept it for a day or two before releasing it. The looked up it's diet, basically exclusively earth worms, and tried to watch it eat. They never caught it in the act, but the worms were definitely gone the next day.

Now that it is easy to post pictures, I will add some old ones.

First one is a timber found in the Crockett area.
Second one, somebody sent to me. Don't yell at me, I didn't kill it. Timber that had a squirrel in its belly.
