He sure is flattening out that head saying "look at me I'm venomous!"

Fantastic picture and thanks for sharing.

He sure was flattening that head...Two of my golf buddies were saying he was venomous, "look at the triangular head" and thanks to this board, I quickly told them to look at the vertical bars on the lower jaw.

Finally have a snake photo of my own to contribute. Murphy gas station in Lockhart, crawled up underneath a customer's car before I could steer it another direction.
Dang it cant post the single image. Will keep trying

TexAgs doesn't like your Google account. Imgur is the easiest way to post pictures.

Here's a challenge. This one is free game for the experts too cuz there's not much snake there. Let's see who can ID this snake. It was right next to the San Gabriel River below Tejas Camp just above Lake Georgetown.

Snake under rock at Tejas Camp on the San Gabriel River, TX.

I'd say that's a Masticophis... based on how it looks under a rock when I found some in similar positions.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Well it's hard to tell from the pic, but the scales are pretty heavily keeled. So that eliminates that genus...

I knew this was going to be a hard one and knowing you, it's probably pretty unique...

In that area you're out of range, at least to my knowledge, of a Brazos water snake. Perhaps a Grayham's Crayfish Snake? Although I am not sure that's in range either.

This is tough and I'm 100% guessing right now

I believe you came across a wild parachute cord.

That's a legit tough one. Can't see the head. Mt gestalt says hognose but it may be a watersnake.

Hognose.

Agree... The eye is all hognose.

Fun day with the kids today. Saw some skinks, a few scorpions, and a couple of fun snakes. We probably found 8 rough earth snakes, and a really big (~10 inches) Texas Blind Snake, along with several smaller ones.

My guess is a coachwhip.
Daddy-O5

That was my guess. I thought two coachwhips mating, but per the google it may be a little early for that.

Correct coachwhip X2... Cool pic!

Also not mating... Fighting.

Not mine, but mom sent it to me from their neighborhood. She said everyone was worried about the snakes of death getting in their yards. Figured she'd be the voice of reason and ask.

Are those pretty large coachwhips? Seems like the few I have seen have all been pretty slender and only about 18"?
Badace52
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Nah... Pretty average adults. They can get very large.

Just looked up the record for coachwhip length and it was bigger than even I expected. 8ft 6inches.

That would put them in the top 5 largest species in the U.S. for sure and maybe top 2-3.
