Do you think these two have been further off the road than Dan?

I would wager just about anybody who has visited Africa has been further off-road than Dan. Most people go there with the idea of getting off the road and seeing the wildlife. Dan's trip seems to be mostly about taking as many pictures as he can of his jeep parked next to paved roads. #twowheelsalwaysonblacktop

Over the course of two months we explored every nook and cranny of this little West African playground, travelling more than 4,000 km in a Jeep Wrangler my friend had converted into a live-in vehicle.

It was amazing to arrive in Africa and find that its reputation did not align with its realities. I discovered that I'd sooner be more concerned with travelling to a Trump support rally or inner-city neighbourhood in the United States, than I would be travelling to most African destinations.
quote:BOOM. Africa is a better place to go than the United States, and you can thank the United States tourism campaign (?) for tricking you into thinking otherwise. Open your eyes, sheeple.
Sure various regions of Africa have their problems, but so do a lot of other countries too. Need I remind that approximately 30 people die every day in the United States as a result of gun violence, and the country experiences some of the worst racial and gender prejudices of our time. Yet everyone wants to travel to America, the land of the "free" - the Brand USA tourism campaign makes sure of it. The United States has the world's highest incarceration rate - double that of South Africa - so who is the more troubled and dangerous region now?
quote:That's just the American Tourism Campaign talking Emily. Africa is a great place to be a woman.
Women in Morocco continued to be difficult to capture due to the men nearby taunting and teasing them, so I simply adapted to finding women alone in groups.
quote:No kidding? She's is being forced to cover up in public and all you want to do is downplay that oppression with how 'stunning' it looks.
This girl and I struck up a fast friendship as we darted around the Marrakech medina searching for a quiet corner where she would't be bothered for posing in this photograph. As we chatted, she was more interested in showing me her Facebook account where she's wearing modern clothing, than discussing her stunning traditional dress.
quote:hilarious how she dismisses those that say Africa is dangerous when they haven't experienced it themselves, but then says that Trump rallies are dangerous even though she hasn't been to one.quote:BOOM. Can we ruin their lives now?

Anyone else thinking that this is just part of the ruse so that Dan can try to keep saying he is traveling solo? Admit that Emily was there, but she is gone now. Then in reality, she is still riding along?

Is it just me or did every caption of a woman mention "harrassment" or "unwanted attention" ?

quote:especially considering the context. her blog is chock full of stories about women who are hugely oppressed by any objective standard, on a continent where women being gang raped and having their breasts cut off while their infants are murdered in front of them is not all that uncommon, and then she has the gall to say that the US experiences some of the worst gender prejudices of our time. GET THE **** OUT OF HERE. there is no better place to be a woman than in 2016 America. full stop.quote:

holy crap that is one of the dumbest things ive ever heard, yet i know tons of people believe it. I'm not saying the US doesnt have any racial issues, you bet we do. But the african nation i live in is full of racial strife that we dont even come close to touching. I know of a woman whose husband was of a different people group. One day he just up and decides he no longer wants to be married to a woman of a different ethnicity, divorces her, and marries someone from his own group. as bad as tensions seem to be in the states, you dont see stuff like that, and thats not even a violent or political example.
