He's getting closer to Lundazi, but I bet he skips us and goes north through Malawi, along the lake.

You should reach out to him and invite him to stay with you. You would become a TexAgs legend.

Especially if you give us an exact date and then murder him on it.

Ooh yes like exactly July 23rd!

If his map is accurate, it looks like he plans to take the Great East Road from Lilongwe, into Zambia, and then head north from Chipata. If so, he may come through Lundazi, creating the greatest event since Roger Federer was here a couple of weeks ago. On the other hand, he may be going north along the Luangwa River and visiting South Luangwa National Park.
You don't have to be the actual agent to complete the mission, but I bet you might know some budding entrepreneurs who might want to start their own Jeep parts resale bidness. Have them get a good start if Dan and the Hobbit pass through your parts. Maybe ol Emily can pack Danny boy around on her back for a few miles north.

I'd happily contribute to the part resale fund.

I can count on one hand the number of Jeep vehicles I've seen in Zambia in 2 1/2 years.

I wonder how many people will read modded Jeep guy's book.
There are plenty of "It's a Jeep Brah" dweebs that'll be all over it I'm sure...

If you don't have asphalt running through town, you won't be counting Dan's jeep then.

He should consult the guy who tried to take a motorcycle along the Shawshank route to Zihuatanejo on the west coast of Mexico.

Oh yeah. He got robbed and murdered by cartel members.

Oh ....Zihuatanejo....

Why do cartels hate great surf spots so much?

How did he roll that on dry, hard packed, 15' wide road?

Did posts get deleted, or was all the talk about him ditching his girlfriend in the middle of BFE on a different thread?

Oh wait he's probably just doing some maintenance on his fresh water tank by the exhaust.

TLDR: parking brake has been iffy for awhile now, but he still uses it with the engine running and in gear. Karma ensues.

I really don't have words for how moronic this guy is after reading that. It's amazing he had a gf and is still alive.

OK pause. I got as far as "I've been driving for 8 hours on rough roads". I take Southwest Parkway every day to and from work, and that's probably rougher than whatever roads he's been driving on. He probably rolled his Jeep swerving to miss a meerkat or whatever the African equivalent of a squirrel is. Carry on.

He left his Jeep in gear with an inoperable ebrake from what I think I read.

Yeah I continued on and it was way better than a meerkat

What an idiot, even if you're too lazy to adjust your parking brake at least carry around a big rock or two to put behind the wheels.

How he is alive is beyond me.

I read the blog post, evidently the "left" sign was to remind him to drive on the left side of the road in that country.

I'm trying to wrap my head around what kind of moron it takes to PURPOSELY leave a vehicle in gear, relying solely on the handbrake.

I have been driving for 37 years and have never done this, nor has it ever occurred to me to do this.

I just assumed he was driving a standard transmission. In that case, leaving it in gear is better than leaving it in neutral (although if my ebrake wasn't working, I'd have something to chock the wheels on the seat next to me).

But yes, people who do this in an automatic are morons.

Edit: Yup, he's driving a 6-speed manual transmission. Leaving it in first was the right thing to do, but relying on that alone was stupid.

As fast as he claimed it rolled away, I think it must have slipped out of gear.

Also, he sure seems to freak out a lot about his jeep on its side. When you read the account of the couple that did a real overland trip, the number of times they rolled over on really rough roads is almost comical, and it barely phases them: https://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/democratic-republic-of-congo-lubumbashi-to-kinshasa.50799/
