Wow, so the sprint race has no effect on the grid placement? I kinda thought the reasoning behind sprint races (besides money) was to get a better reflection on the grid placement due to the track not being set up for a 1 lap timing structure and to build in driver skill to grid placement.

That was the original thinking. Now it sounds like they basically want two separate races and processes entirely.

That guy is nails every week. Beyond the accents, the mannerisms are perfect and he does such a good job of incorporating the events into the interviews.

Bad news for Mid De Vries as Liam Lawson wins the first race of the Super Formula season. He's the top RBA driver right now and they sent him to Super Formula just like they did with Gasly before he jumped to F1 (Gasly did GP2 3 years and won it on his third but Liam only did 2 years of F2, P4 last year). SF is closer to F1 than F2 so that will play in his favor.

Personally I've been following Lawson (and Vips, rip lol) since they were in F3 as Red Bull Academy drivers so I am hoping he joins the grid next year.

Spa organizers mention they seem hopeful of an extension, if South Africa fails to reach a deal again a 2 year deal for Spa would be what they aim for. Hoping Spa stays as I'd make it my destination next year. Some European tracks deserve to be in the calendar more than the parking lot race in the US.

So what's the point of the sprint race this weekend? As I understand it, qualifying for the GP will happen first and then the sprint race which has no impact on the GP.

So why even have the sprint race?

For the other sprint races, points were awarded 8 down to 1 for Top 8 and main race points stayed the same.

I am going to assume this format will be the same.
