I get through Rockdale fairly often. I know Brett's has a pop up at East Bell Taphouse and they serving BBQ there.

Brett's BBQ in Katy is amazing. They opened a larger place with actual room to sit and enjoy the bbq.

I guess similar to beef cheek I missed info on whatever drama involves Brett. Few times I've been I've always found him to be a nice guy and I think his product is worthy of top 50, everything has been pretty solid and as I said my other post, his pico de gallo sausage is one of my favorites.

So since he is permanently closed and anything said can't hurt his business, can you give us a backstory on what happened?

In short, myself and 2 other guys helped him, on our own time, in opening the restaurant. Brett refuses to acknowledge any of it.

Interesting stuff. Bretts has been one of our favorite stops and I always found him to be a pretty nice guy (although he always seemed tired as hell) including one time he totally hooked me up with something for my work.
Obviously don't know anything about him other than those brief interactions but between the him being elected mayor, the place seemingly booming then closing down for good and now these revelations it's another interesting Texas BBQ story.

Yeah, I'm definitely making plans now. Was excited just for the bbq, and now that the music lineup is announced, I'm 100% in. Midland and Uncle Lucius sold me. Add Charlie Robison and Shane Smith, gonna be a killer show.

That was my first thought as well. I thought he had been forced into retirement because of a medical issue that affected his voice. Would love to be there just to see him again.
I still enjoyed John Prine's later stuff after his voice changed, hopefully this works out well for him.
