Only downside is as stated, how would it affect our future negotiations with our core group. Plus I'm assuming Kyle Tucker would be the focal piece in the deal?
Sounds like they would give him to us if we paid full contract price

But what about our core? We know how they perform under pressure. As long as we have enough money to keep our horses....
Not sure if Stanton can stay healthy.

Let's say **** it and go get Giancarlo Stanton.
Stanton hitting between Altuve and Correa would really be something to see.CFTXAG10 said:
Not getting my hopes up but just imagine:
Springer, Bregman, Altuve, Correa, Stanton, Marwin, McCann, Gattis, etc.

Depends on what Bregman turns out to be.DVC2010 said:WES2006AG said:Stanton hitting between Altuve and Correa would really be something to see.CFTXAG10 said:

Just being hypothetical because hypotheticals are fun (I still think there's no way this happens, and I'd be pretty upset if it did), but I think Altuve-Stanton-Correa or Altuve-Correa-Stanton have to be 2-3-4, not 3-4-5. You have to get those bats to the plate as often as you can.
I am envisioning a lineup like this:DVC2010 said:WES2006AG said:Stanton hitting between Altuve and Correa would really be something to see.CFTXAG10 said:

Careful there. We aren't the Rangers.HotardAg07 said:
I think the Astros have said they would prefer to get another regular outfielder for next year so Marwin can go back to being a utility infielder and giving blows to our infield.

If the two options are :
1) keep the team as is, keep most of our good players over time, but lose one or two to free agency as the years go by
2) sign Stanton for a two year window, but then lose Correa, Altuve, etc because of financial issues as they become free agents
Give me option 1. I want to see Correa and Altuve go down as career Astros. This generation's Biggio and Bagwell.
(Obviously it's more complicated than just those two options)

I'd gladly take that over being one strike away and coming up emptywangus12 said:
Man listening to the radio in Dallas today's enjoyable on the drive home. Basically saying that the Astros sucking for so many years wasn't worth the World Series and that they wouldn't do it that way.
From what I can gather it was not exactly a plan. Uncle Drayton did not want use his money for players when in process of selling the team/ Luhnow saw little benefit for the long run development of the the organization by signing mid level free agents which would have only made the team marginally better. The whole we'll tank for a few years to gather a bunch of future stars is a bunch of BS. While nothing is guaranteed, I wonder how many years of extended success would make it worth those four 90+ loss seasons (three 100+) and five seasons of mediocrity following the '05 pennant?wangus12 said:
