We keep hearing about a new "spike" in cases. Have hospitals also started to see a spike in admissions for COVID or is that continuing to go down?

The hospital clients I am working with, are seeing a gain in COVID admissions. In Texas and outside of Texas.

More people have started to go to the hospital but the data shows they aren't staying and the number of severe cases are going down.

I'm sure if we compare stats from the day we moved down to orange - to the stats today when we moved back up to red - "the science" will show Clay is simply trying to save lives. So lets see:

Sep 2 - moved from red to orange -

patients in acute care - 378 (from report in tweet)

ER visits for people with covid symptoms - 505 (from report)

positivity rate for week ending 9.5- 10.8% (see page 10 of pdf in link from above poster)

Oct 14 - moved from orange to red -

patients in acute care - 367

ER visits for people with covid symptoms - 431

positivity rate for week ending 10.3 - 10.0%

Clay, there are 2MM people here. These numbers are statistically irrelevant.

I can't find the percentage positive rate. Mind narrowing down a bit?

It's really the "people who go to the hospital and have covid symptoms and take a covid test" positivity rate

But it's all this idiotic county can offer us

Positivity rate is only relevant if you are continuously testing everyone in the city every day. Since you are not, it should not be mentioned.

It can be affected by a million factors - are you testing people at the hospital only, are people going more frequently to get tested just cause, etc.

What matters is hospitalizations/deaths. Everything else is noise meant to scare you.

I wouldn't do that if truth is what you are seeking.

I would add overnight hospital stays or inpatient. Other than that agree with everything you say. To me the data our county is showing and that of other data sources is that either this virus is getting weaker or we have a better idea on how to fight it. Regardless, it's becoming less and less of an impact on anyone's health and ability to....

Exactly. Like showing "hospitalizations" for women in labor. It's only a problem if they got past the normal 2 night stay. Therefore, you would only care to track women that had to stay longer due to complications.

I went to the hospital because the media scared the **** out of me re: COVID is not the same as "the ambulance is wheeling me out of my house because I cannot breathe".

The states with the two highest populations seem to also have the most cases? Wow, what are the odds of that.... (sarcasm towards Clay, not 752bro4)

Already hearing rumors of Clay trying another shutdown.

Dallas is managing this fine, doing a shutdown in this area with all the little surrounding cities doing whatever they want is pointless. You can probably do that to lubbock area if you really want to, here, why bother?

I don't think ear piercing is a necessity during these RED days, Clay. How dare you put your school age child at risk!

Ha! I also don't think the piercer could be 6' away...unless Shawn Bradley got into that business.

Broke the 1000+ new cases today. 1248.

Will be interesting to see how the hospitalization go the next few weeks.

Census at UTSW has been on a slow steady rise for weeks now. Can't speak to specifics.

Private schools are really struggling now with cases in all divisions. From what I gather they are pinning much of it on club sports.

We just got a call that my 2nd grade daughter had direct exposure and must stay home for 14 days. However my 4th grade son can go to school.

They really should alter the rules for elementary as almost none of them show symptoms or spread it at that age. I had COVID, 3rd grader never showed a symptom.

Based on what our daughter has told us, we think it may be the teacher and the entire class is quarantined. My wife is a hygentist and got the call when she was pulling up to work. She was directly exposed 2 weeks ago at work and the dentist told her to go ahead and come in the next day but today he told her to go home since our daughter is quarantined. We are probably going to get tested tomorrow but our son is still at school now.

Contact of contact has never been required to quarantine per CDC.

I might be naive to this but here is what I don't understand. If my daughter shows symptoms then my son would have to quarantine but by that time he would have already been exposed and been at school. Am I wrong in that?

Then he wouldn't be a contact of a contact anymore.

Don't try to apply logic to any of this. Quoting the CDC will drive you crazy as long as individual organizations are crafting their own thresholds, definitions and processes.
Phat32

It's all driven by general counsels and whomever the head risk person is at any of these organizations, most of which have absolutely zero idea of how a virus works.
