There was a recent poster on Nextdoor who says they're in negotiations to lease the former Urban Table location and open a cafeteria-style restaurant with a bakery, and use the upstairs for catering events and weekend brunch. They hope to open before Thanksgiving.
I like this concept.
It's all about location in BCS. That was a wonderful restaurant, but I always forgot about it because of its horrible location. Unless Pappadeaux goes in there or something huge it's not gonna do well.
I've lived here 40 years and I have seen restaurant after restaurant fail because of location, not because of the restaurant itself.
You're just not gonna get enough traffic to make it there. It would be better off as an office building or something epic that really is wanted here because nobody's gonna drive that far out just to go eat.
I beg to differ regarding "fail because of location, not because of the restaurant itself". I'm not saying Urban Table is a good location, or that there aren't/weren't problematic locations in Bryan-College Station, but I remember how 1037 Texas Avenue South had a "bad location" until Torchy's Tacos moved in and has operated for over a decade. Same with the TX Burger restaurant in Wellborn.
We don't have issues like other cities when it comes to locations--economically depressed areas where businesses struggle in general (okay, maybe Post Oak Mall), we don't have road construction projects that cut off access, and we don't have boom/bust cycles where things get built in off-the-wall areas that never pan out.
