Pickleball Junction recently broke ground according to their socials.

Hopefully the pickleball fad won't be over before they can get open.

Everyone is getting injured and learning how to play mahjong now.

Our church has(maybe had now) a weekly pickleball night starting 4-5 years ago. I joked one Sunday we should have EMS on site because we are not a young church. For the next 6 weeks, someone ended up needing medical care of some variety. We made some orthopedic surgeon a lot of money…

Raising Cane's in College Station is closed for renovations.

That's kind of a big deal. That place always has a line. Here is Laynes chance to solidify it's chicken finger dominance

I just cannot with Layne's anymore. I feel like it has gone so downhill.

Yep, selling out to corporate didn't do them any favors, except the bank accounts of the previous owners that is.

I actually find it's gotten a lot better now that corporate has taken over. Crazy, I know.

Except their food is actually edible now.

We thought it was fine before. I did make the mistake of getting the spicy one time, never again. I'm not man enough.

Seriously? Are you from Iowa or somewhere like that where people think black pepper is spicy?

lol. I tend to only get the spicy, it's a notch or two above black pepper. But some people can't handle the heat. Lane's sauce > Cane's sauce, but which one I choose ultimately depends on how I feel that day. New Layne's just as good as Old Layne's IMO.

Have you tried the spicy? It's like straight Cayenne. Maybe they toned it down. And I'm from the land of green chiles. Watch yourself

Yeah, it's what I get if I'm eating Laynes. They have good flavor, but wouldn't consider them spicy.

I guess you mean New Mexico? Some of the most overrated food ever.

TX Panhandle. Food isn't even rated so can't be overrated. But, I love some fresh roasted green chiles on nearly everything.

I hope the owner of The Republic doesn't see this, and find out who you are.

I'll live. The place is a dump, have no need or desire to ever go back.

What's going on with "The Range" on Wellborn Rd? Thought it was opening a few months ago. Looks ready to go but haven't seen any updates.

65% of New Mexico residents are on Medicaid (over 40%) or Medicare. That tells me all I need to know about my tax burden if I'm under 65 living there. I'll pass.

Shots fired... speaking of New Mexico, is there any place that does New Mexico enchiladas around here? They are difficult to explain. More of a lasagna with corn tortillas that rolled enchiladas.

Nope. There isn't. So I make stacked enchiladas at home

I'm going to get hate for this, but once upon a time, Chuys did a decent one. Stacked blue corn tortillas, chicken, and hatch green chile with a fried green egg on top. Then covid happened. I had friends from Silver City, NM who would use that to get their fix. This was when I was living in Austin so the food scene was more diverse than here. Authentic? No. Decent attempt? Yep.

Chuy's did decent ones during hatch chile week

You are correct. I quit eating at Chuy's when we moved back here because this one is awful compared to any of the locations around Austin.

Man this SW war has me thinking about Arizona-Mex now. God how I miss those wonderful lard soaked tortillas and carne seca burritos.

Alejandro's was the brand I think.

What route are you taking? I've lived out here for 4 years and really love the Mexican food here.

I think we're on I-40 most of the way. We're eventually headed to Carson City, NV for a family reunion. I know we are staying in Cameron one night and in Grand canyon village the next.

On our way back, I think we're taking a more southerly route.

Hope you have a safe and great trip. If I could offer a suggestion, if you happen to be going through Tucson there is a place called Rosa's Mexican Food.

I hope you're not planning to get from Cameron to Grand Canyon in a day.

El Charo in Tucson is the oldest Mexican restaurant under the same ownership in the US. Los Dos Molinas has 3 or 4 locations in the Phoenix area and it's my favorite.

I had to find out through Community Impact that Charli closed for good on May 31st, I don't remember seeing it on the thread. It had operated since 1974 though I believe there was an interruption when they moved from 707 Texas Avenue (original building got wrecked for On the Border).
