Not sure if it's been posted or not, but looks like Sakura is closed. Google says "permanently closed". I've seen some people say they have signage on the door for rent payment failure too.

Yep. Rusty posted about it earlier. I liked Kyuramen but I guess no one else did.

I don't remember that. I've only been following this board for ~5 years.

Community Impact says The Owl is expanding- adding a new bar, more seating and a stage.

do they have real food there? like not just bar food.

I've only ever had fake food there.

Pretty easy to look up the menu.

yeah, I didn't think they had one because when you open it up, the menu only shows drinks. you gotta scroll to the bottom to find their food menu. my main point was is whether it's family friendly or not. I'd go with no based on that.

My kids are 6 & 10. They love the patio at The Owl.

I love this!! Lots of students going away from Northgate to other bars because of the police presence at Northgate.

Is that the reason they gave, or is Northgate just not an attractive destination because it's expensive, difficult to access, and just overall not worth it?

There have been more incidents in the news in recent years involving people who have zero connection to the University or other students.

This is debatable. Collectively over the years I'm not sure this is accurate, depending on how far back you go.

Actually "in the news" is the catch here, due to social media and Rusty's reporting.

Pretty sure that there were more issues with out-of-towners before the open container act was enacted and enforced...and a 2005 article I managed to dig up did suggest that a lot of the problem was just bringing coolers and kegs to drink at Northgate.

Don't know if it's been posted but Xoctic looks closed (I think that was like the fishing and hunting type clothing store near Tad's that used to be near campus).

Major thread derail - let's get back to Coming and Going. Thanks.

[We have cleaned it up and if posters want to have a discussion about Northgate we ask that a thread be started on the board. Thank you. -Staff]

A CS officer told me there are 30 bars now as opposed to 8-10 30 yr ago in northgate. Helps explain the difference somewhat.

BINGO. The math is clear and the driving factor.

Side note: I, along with my brother and the other Northgate District Association leadership have been meeting with Chief Couch and his team at PD approximately semi annually. We discuss all things Northgate and common goals between PD and the various merchants.

I suppose I'm saying this because I feel it's prudent to present that there's a careful guidance we are all trying to abide by for successful commerce and safety to align.

Related to this thread, I noticed that the places where Wells Fargo and Starbucks used to be are just apartment leasing offices now, and the FedEx Office building still continues to rot.

There has now been two different restaurants that have signed leases there and started renovation work and then abandoned the project. I think its time to level that building and start anew. Would love a live music venue there. Or if the economics of that location require something more dense, a Graduate by Hilton hotel or similar. They've built locations in a lot of SEC towns.

Isn't that spot too small for a hotel?

Not at all, if it goes vertical. The parking lot behind it is part of the property. Before the restaurant that signed the lease and never got off the ground, Oldham Goodwin was marketing it as a student high-rise development opportunity.

This was the design plan that was being shopped for a bit for this lot. This is not the current plan.

I still have trouble believing that gif is of dearly deceased Robert Redford and not Zach Galifianakis.

Anywho, does anyone know if and when that taco shop opens, next to Wing Stop and Siam Iyara on University Dr? They put their sign up a while ago, I think it said something like tacos and seafood?

To get back on track, when we going to get some tacos on the east side of town?

We are currently in lease negotiations for a second Mojo Tortilla Co. location on the west side of Bryan. We are also targeting an East/hwy 6 location for the longer term, but I suspect that will be a while.

Also, the Mojo Tortilla Co. food trailer is all buttoned and has been inspected by the state, waiting for final approval. We are very excited to deploy that unit.
