Interest piqued. Is that on East 29th?

In the old Winn-Dixie center at Carter Creek and 29th

Used to shop at that Winn Dixie as well.

Don't get me started about the former businesses at Culpepper Plaza.

Actually the place in the Hilton has the best tiramisu in town. It's a huge piece.

How is that restaurant? The Dean?

Been meaning to check it out, but unfortunately I often forget about it on date nights.

I'm looking forward to trying Rosie's! But I swear, didn't there used to be another restaurant in town called Rosie's some years ago? Vague memory....

I definitely remember the Rosie's pasta dish at the original restaurant though! I can still picture sitting on that porch overlooking Wellborn road for brunch on Sundays. Good memories.

Take this with a grain of salt: friend at TAMU has a colleague who is close to the Trader Joe's people. Says they are currently exploring the feasibility of opening in BCS.

I know we've been here before. But apparently they have a minimum population threshold and given our growth maybe we've reached it?

Well there used to be Rosalie's Pasta on church at 102 across from Cafe Eccell at 101. They were sister restaurants. I worked at both.

When was this? I remember a strange health food kind of place and then La Bodega.

Looking forward to having a new spot nearby. Any places you can share as comparables? Is a hybrid dalmoros + all'antico vinaio close-ish?

According to my records 1991 to 1997.

It went like this.
La Taqueria
Planetary Grub and Organic Juice Bar (didn't last long)
Rosalie's Pasta
Cafe Eccell Annex (large private party room for CE)
La Bodega

La Taq. I think I lived on those veggie tacos while in school. I'm not close to a vegetarian but they were good, cheap and filling. That's a college kid's trifecta.

La Taq was our go-to every Sunday night of freshman year.

Planetary Grub. R.I.P.

A bit sad I don't remember Rosalie's at all.

In order of success

La Bodega
La Taqueria
Rosalie's (RIP the Tortellini Genovese and the herbed olive oil dip with fresh como bread)
Planetary Grub (I don't think it lasted 6 months)

La Taq is number one

Your sales were fine. You just didn't understand food cost yet and I ate you out of your profit margin.

I interviewed for my TAMU faculty position in 1990. Flew in from upstate NY in late April. Faculty interviews involves a lot of dining out. Not too many options in 1990. But one of my favorites was La Taqueria for breakfast. And my favorite dinners were Cafe Eccell and Cenares (the original). My biggest memory was being in the Hilton bar lounge and being told to move away from the windows because of a tornado on the ground nearby. I hated winter more than tornadoes, loved breakfast tacos, and so I moved to Aggieland 3 months later. Still here.

So it turned out that Planetary Grub was the same ownership of Rosalie's and La Taqueria but wasn't vegetarian like everyone thought, it was more trendy food. It also operated under that name and format for like, a month.

Yep, that's my old boss. He opened the Dixie Chicken with Don Ganter and then split off and did his own thing. I bought his places June 1, 1999 after working for him for 9 years.. Cafe Eccell, Cafe Eccell Annex, and The Crooked Path Ale House.

Sorry if this was already covered, I did not see it in the last couple of pages.

Yoga Pod college Station closed down. They are doing a few pop up classes this month but last full day of business was in May. They originally opened in 2014 on rock Prairie, then moved to the physicians centre two years ago.

Sad to see another business close.

There are plans for an apartment complex, which appears to be student housing, at College Main and Woodson in Bryan. The plans indicate it will be six stories, 187 units, most of which appear to be 1 bedroom units as it is only 254 bedrooms. The site plan also calls for 3,000 square feet of commercial, but we will see. Not sure commercial would do well there.

The project is called The Langley at Bryan.

The Bank of America site, along with the neighboring strip center, along University near Texas is on the market.

https://oldhamgoodwin.com/properties/bank-of-america-site/

I think this will be an interesting one to watch. Will we see the first student high rise on that side of Texas? Apartments not exclusive to students? Commercial? To make the numbers work, it will likely be a mixed use high-density project. Whatever happens with this redevelopment could be the first domino in redeveloping those few blocks along University and Texas (gas station, Uhaul, etc.).

Also, related, I've heard that Bank of America is going to build a new building with office space and a branch at the pad site in front of Mess Waffles and the 100 Park apartments. I haven't seen any permitting or plans submitted that would confirm this, however.
