Neat. Used to see green snakes often. Haven't seen one in years.
Also: 5 footer caught in the hen house.

Rat Snake but I can see the confusion with a bull snake with this guys pattern.
The real hint on the post was saying he found it in the chicken coop which usually means rat snake aka "chicken snake"

He's wrong. It's actually a western green mamba

Family debate going on as to what this was. No head or tail available to help identify. Rat? Or Rattler?

This request is for 12F Mane. My daughter is a freshman at ULL and is taking a survival class as one of her electives, She is putting together a project on the venomous snakes of the local area along with mimics. She has learned a lot over the years from these annual threads and is especially appreciative of 12F Mane's photography. With that in mind she wants to know if you'd be okay with her using some of your photos (giving full credit, of course). She's specifically looking for photos of:
pygmy, eastern diamondback, and timber rattlesnake
water mocassin
copperhead (there's a fantastic shot on the first page this year)
Texas and eastern coral snake
scarlet king
dbws, mgws, bbws,
hognose (pygmy rattlesnake coloration)
any other mimics you might suggest
She can certainly find photos in the public domain, but is very impressed with your knowledge and work. Thanks for all you do to educate.
