Side story. So about 15 years ago I go out to get the paper, yes we had those back in the day and they were thrown into your yard. About 8am Sunday morning and I see a 5 foot rat snake i the yard and go get it.
Thought this is great I'm going to go show the 10 yo boy who is in bed. He had a room about 10x12 or so. I get in there wake him up which he did not like and show him the snake. About that time the rat let's loose his stink bomb. As he is wincing and coughing I do a 180 out of the stinking room and head outside.
I could not stop laughing for 15 minutes. His face was priceless

I like how the copperheads around here have an almost whitish fade at the color band changes.

Just returned from 4 days out of town and found this guy on the sticky trap. Probably a garden snake but can y'all confirm?

Another walk down our neighborhood trail, another snake encounter. Yellow-bellied water snake. Wondering if this is the same one that shed a few weeks ago.
I found another copperhead outside this evening. I know this is a different one because I finally dispatched one the other day when I found it on the deck.
I was debating what my new copperhead policy was going to be when I saw it turn and snatch a cicada off the oak it was crawling through. I had to run in and get the phone to take a pic but you can see the bulge just beneath it's head.
I didn't realize the cicadas are a food source for copperheads, but seeing these snakes so often makes sense given the cicada invasion we're experiencing this year.
