No pic but just a reminder here in Texas, even in January you can get in trouble. I was moving some old tin at a rental property today and an 18" copperhead missed my hand by a foot under the last piece. He was pisssed I removed his roof and wasn't slow about showing it.
Yep, the largest rattler I have ever seen on my place was this time of year. The weather was about the same..... a couple semi-warm days in between cold fronts. Snake was moving across my hay field and I chased it with my tractor where it escaped into a brush pile. I rarely see a snake during the day on my place during the hot months unless it is around sunset.oklaunion said:

Well he's right about one thing, we cannot verify with 100% certainty that his head was copper.
I'm just enjoying the contrast in subsequent posts from 12fmane's nice live colorful copperhead shot and then scroll right to the dead decrepit headless one.. LOL
Found this guy while walking a couple of nights ago. He had gotten into some fire ants. I knocked them off as best as I could and moved him into grass. The wife gave him a wide berth and never stopped moving.
Thornscrub ratsnake from Aransas Pass last week. Hope most of our legless friends get down in some deep holes this week.
This cold snap is going to take its toll on a lot of our Texas pals... hopefully it's not too bad.
Relocated a ribbon snake (in B/CS) for a neighbor. Hope he/she makes it through the cold.
Found this guy under some flagstone I was moving to hold down the tarp in the background. Moved him to the Christmas lights I have wrapped around my rose. I hope he makes it. The meat thermometer says the base of the rose is at 50ish right now, so I'm hopeful.

I wanted to post something to make sure it appears near the top of my updates. But to make it relevant, here's a couple that we saw on our walk through the Houston Arboretum. And a video of two guys removing 45 rattlers from under a house in my home town.
That video is unreal. I'm not usually a burn it to the ground guy, but I think that's the right call here.

February 14th - found this one while moving dirt to protect bottom of a well pipe. I did not intentionally kill it. He was 2-3" below top of grade:
