I think my favorite tweet from last night: "George RR Martin sends his regards."

Definitely a testament to how well this show has done adapting the story from the book to the TV, to have fans feel so emotionally connected to the action. Let's hope they can keep this up.

Remember 3 episodes ago, when Jamie said to Roose Bolton, "You do understand how suspicious that is to ordinary people" after Roose refused a drink.

I think the best approach is to just assume that every character will die and it will make the story so much more pleasant to deal with.

Think Spiers from band of brothers:
quote:
The only hope you have is to accept the fact that you're already dead. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll be able to function as a soldier is supposed to function: without mercy, without compassion, without remorse. All war depends upon it.

Game of thrones is about a war, and each character is a soldier whether they like it or not. I'm enjoying the ride...

Yeah, bet you non-readers will recognize Roose Bolton from now on, right? No more Mr. Generic Old White Guy.

When did this become a Lannister plot?

Did the plot originate with Tywin or did he take advantage of the timing of the wedding?

Was Frey going to kill them all along - - even without Tywin?

i believe that is an assumption, albeit a strong one, due to the focus of Tywin writing so many letters and having said that wars arent just won on the battlefield (or something like that).

America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedom and our way of life. We did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive.

Can someone refresh my memory on what it is that Bran thinks he has to go do north of the wall? I can't remember what the other kid told him he needed to do...

He's looking for the three-eyed crow.

Jon was why Luwin sent them to the wall. The 3 eyed raven is why he is going north of the wall.

That's why I got upset when a reader pointed out about Tywin's letter writing and asking what was in those letters. Tywin planned it all along. If you think back the signs were everywhere. It was just too outrageous to consider and thus that's why it is such a shock.

The gloves are off now. No one is safe.

Once season 3 is over, I'm thinking about going back and reading the book(s). Anyone else read the books after watching the show first? Which book(s) would take me through season 3 and not give me spoilers or cover any of season 4?

Not sure if this would be a good idea or not...

Book 3, but you'd have to stop reading after the events of the wedding. 2nd half of book 3 is season 4.

edit to add: And there might be some stuff in earlier chapters that are being pushed back, or maybe even stuff from later chapters/books that have been included in Season 3...I can't remember now.

I did the opposite of what you want to do. I watched the first episode and then realized I wanted to read the books. I didn't want the show to spoil the books for me. Sounds like you don't want the books to spoil the show.

Your way will get tricky with books 4 and 5, as they are not chronological.

That said... once you get this far in the books, you probably won't want to quit.

If you didn't want to spoil season 4, then you'd be best off just avoiding book 3 altogether since there's not really a cut and dry division. For instance, Dany's part in episode 9 is toward the end of the book.

At this point if you are going to start the books I would recommend reading them all. The show and the books are just combining too much into the future books and there are more and more changes. This season was primarily about the first half of Book 3 but it also had parts of Books 4 and 5. There are also just more and more characters that have to be combined.

You can also get away with using the Tower of the Hand summaries for the first book and less so the second. There are a few chapters that are not in the show that are worth reading though for certain that deal with flashbacks and prophecies which the show really has skipped for the most part. Only a couple of things really in Book 1 but quite a few in Books 2 and 3 that you really will want to read.

Before reading the books I also recommend printing off a map of Westeros and referencing the Houses that are listed in the back of the book. The world is much, much bigger and more detailed.
