+1!!! I just wish she'd show more skin. I also think Rob's chick is good looking too. What's her name, Talisa? Anyways I can't wait for this season!

They're different characters in the book/show. Talisa was made for TV, the backstory for the Westerling family would take up too much time for the show.

I just started watching on Saturday and wrapped up season 2 last night. Cramming 20 episodes into 3 days was tough, but I fought through it!

I struggled a lot trying to remember who was who and figuring out how they were all connected...and what the hell was going on in general at times. Most of the old men kind of look the same to me and everyone is dressed the same so it was very confusing, but it got clearer as I went along.

The dragon queen is one of the hottest women I've ever seen, and the dwarf seems like the kind of guy I'd like to hang out with and have a beer or two with.

Now that I'm up to date w/ the show, I'll go searching the interwebs for explanations of everything I don't understand...because there's quite a bit.

I went through the same things, taint. And I didn't even cram as much as you did.

You have plenty of time to watch it all again before Sunday

Hey!

Dagmar Cleftjaw (Theon's #2) was in First Knight, as was Davos Seaworth.

Ned Stark's wife's sister is in Prometheus. Noticed this a few days ago.

Taint, at the risk of sounding like one of the "OMG you plebes haven't read the books... why even bother?"-types, I didn't start reading until after season 2 and it really helped to put it all together and sort out the characters.

If you're not wanting to put in the time to read them, there are plenty of online resources but I think it'd be hard to avoid spoilers going that route.

I'm trying to finish up Storm of Swords before Sunday. I'm interested to see how it goes with this being the first season I've watched after reading.

I watched S1 then read the books. I think seeing the families visually helped me separate the allegiances. If I had just picked up the book, I would have been overwhelmed by the names. "Poole is common and is under the Starks, but Theon is not common and is under the Starks, Jon is half-noble and under the Starks, WTF is a maester?"

According to my guide, Season 2 marathon is running on HBO all day prior to the premiere.

Book 4 and 5 run concurrently for a large portion.

3 does not.

TV show is breaking book 3 into 2 seasons, so don't have to worry about how they'll handle books 4 and 5 for a couple years.

That's smart because the man is slow in finishing the books. Thanks for sharing that.

By far the best "spoiler free" place to go for show watchers is the HBO site, especially the viewers guide: http://viewers-guide.hbo.com/season2/

They have the map and guide to the Houses there that really helps add context. There are also sites like westeros.org but it is VERY hard to go there without getting spoilers galore. The HBO show also speaks solely from the show's perspective and not from the book with the show's perspective. That's really helpful for show "purists" who don't want to know about the books.

There is going to continue to be more and more divergence as the seasons roll on as they have no real choice. The world of GoT (or "A Song of Ice and Fire") is just too big with too many characters and too much going on by Season/Book 3 to be able to tell it even in 20 hours of television.

I was actually reminded last night of the moment I was truly hooked on GoT. I was watching "A Golden Crown" night as it was on and when it came on originally at the end they said you could watch the next episode online on HBO GO. I couldn't wait and did immediately and then realized I couldn't make it 2 weeks before getting my "fix". I plowed through all the books and even the Dunk and Egg Tales as fast as I could. Now it is not only my favorite show ever but favorite books as well.

Aside from the rate at which GRRM is writing at this point (which I'm sure is a factor as well), it's just necessary with all the story that's there. They do a good job at speeding up the plot and certain revelations when necessary, but it doesn't surprise me at all that book three is being made into two seasons. There's a lot to get through that you just wouldn't want to fast-forward or skip altogether.

Books 4 and 5, because of their side-by-side chronology (the books are split by characters rather than chronology/events, then meet back up at the end of book 5 with characters not seen since a point in book 4 and the timelines meet again too), obviously make sense as two seasons, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they became three seasons, depending on how long Martin is taking.

Whats stopping HBO from filming Books 4/5 together?

Then distributing them anyway they want?

Hopefully HBO won't decide to go off on their own plotlines like they did with True Blood. I much prefer the idea of multiple seasons covering a single book.

Do you mean filming or releasing them together? I would imagine they would need to film most of it at the same time because of the locations they'd use, but the sheer amount of content that they have to get through make it seem like an obvious two-season thing. Plus the whole slow writing thing for book 6.

Is that what you were asking?

agree about the cinematography. the dragons looked amazing, too, as did Ghost in the opening scene. the CGI team is getting good at this

Great start.

Definitely noticed a considerable step up in cinematography/cgi. I'm sure their budget has increased quite a bit.

Also, Tywin Lannister is such a ****ing prik.

Sidenote: Saw the premiere at a pub in Houston that was doing a watch party. Lotta fun watching it with a crowd.
