Perhaps when they start flaying his fingers, he might remember the houses of the North. Im sure he can make a helluvan educated guess.

And if you think Bolton is Robb's #2, it should be pretty easy "duh" for a kid who spent most of his life around these houses.

I dont get Jaime.

He so hates an armed escort through the countryside willing to kill Brienne but at the same time he extends money over to Bolton's men.

Why doesnt he offer money to Brienne for his safe return? Why is he willing to offer it to the Bolton soldiers?

Is he really the first frugal Lannister that he is unwilling to pay Brienne and make him indebted to her but willing to pay a squad on horseback?

Seriously why is he resisting Brienne so much? She is delivering him his freedom and he pulls a sword on her? WTF? Am I missing something?

well, he wants her to succeed at getting him safely to King's Landing, when compared to them getting captured along the way. Cat's action of freeing him put Brienne AND him at odds with any Northmen or Baratheon supporters (or any other Lannister haters)

seeing as how he's her prisoner and she is expected to exchange him for the Stark girls, he wants to free himself and get home on his own... to save his pride and to null the "prisoner exchange" deal.

He knows she's incorruptible by bribery, so that tack is dead to him.

Jaime is a very complex and conflicted man as he talked about with his cousin last season. He wants to be a true knight but he also loves serve his king. He wants to please his father but he wants to be his own man. He loves his sister but he hates what she makes him do.

One thing that is consistent in this show is very few characters are black and white, those who you thought were bad aren't always so evil while those you thought were good aren't always so either and many are fools. It's one of my favorite aspects of the show, not only is no one safe but there is no obvious good or bad. Probably the most likable character (Tyrion) is a member of the most unlikable family.

I hope Tyrion betrays his family. He has no reason to stay loyal when they all constantly **** on him.

Tyrion loves his family though and takes great pride in being a Lannister. He doesn't hate all his family by any means. He does hate his sister and Joffrey (who he tried in vain to help) and he desperately wants his father to accept him (that scene last episode where his father rejected him so harshly truly hurt him). He loves Jaime, Myrcella, and Tommen though and he knows that he is nothing without his family name and the wealth and power it commands.

Remember in Season 1 when he speaks about how if he were born a commoner they would have likely just left him to the wolves but because he was born a "Lannister of Casterly Rock" things are expected of him. Tyrion also likely realizes that even though his father may have said he will never get Casterly Rock by law it is his if his father were to die. Jaime cannot inherit as a member of the KG and he is the only other son so he trumps Cersei. Betraying his family would also mean he betrays those he loves as well as those he hates and it would betray his own identity in many ways.

I was really uncomfortable when Sansa was telling the grandmother about the King. But relieved when she told them. I'm thinking the hot queen to be is setting up the King. She's a pretty smart one.

I'm curious about what Tywin's long game is. He's basically king. Joeffry is nothing but a blip on his radar. Though leaving the kid with that much power might be a bad idea; I hope they clash and he humbles the kid.

But he seems to care a lot about the family name and its standing in society. So if he were to control the throne, he'd want his own son (or at least kin) to take the throne afterwards, not the son of his daughter. Seeing that he currently has no heir, what are his motivations?

Tywin is ALL about legacy. Rememeber the season from S1 where he is cleaning a deer and is telling Jaime that it is all about the legacy you leave behind. The House name is the most important. And let's not forget, "A Lanister always pay his debt"

But HIS house's greatest accomplishment (as far as he knows because he thinks Jeoffry is a Barretheon) is becoming hand of the king (just like that Aran guy and Ned Stark). So helping Jeoffry isn't helping the Lannisters, unless he's planning on usurping, in which case he has no heir, or he knows of Joeffry's true origins, in which case it'd be an embarrassment to world anyway if he reveals it to everyone.

Joffrey is till Tywin's grandson which i would think counts for something, and even though Joffrey is a Barratheon in name, remember that he (Joff) changed his sigil to invoke both the barratheon and lannister name. i would think that any subsequent heir would carry on that sigil.

Should have been easy for him, but still confusing for me when I was watching. All the confusion over who has Theon really emphasizes how long this show makes us wait to see all the concurrent plots catch up.

-Roose Bolton told Robb that he could send his son to Winterfell in "The Prince of Winterfell," which aired on May 20, 2012.
-The last we saw of Theon was when his own men dragged him off from Winterfell in Valar Morghulis, which aired June 3, 2012.
-Flash forward to April 7, 2013, and we finally see Theon hanging from the X of Roose Bolton's sigil, leaving us to assume that Bolton's son caught them fleeing Winterfell.

Easy to understand the confusion when you've got so many concurrent plots to jump around to with big gaps of time in between scenes.

*edited because the stupid-ass text censor doesn't allow the word for "illegitimate son."

Thanks for that Harry. I was definitely having trouble remembering what happened to Theon and how he ended up there.

Just rewatched part of this week's episode. The banter between the archer with Thoros (Brotherhood without Banners) and the fat kid was funny.

Archer: Have the country is starving and look at this one.
Thoros: Maybe he's the reason half the country's starving.

And the arrow shot up in the air....pretty cool.

The Debt
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I still dont understand Jaime's motivation for fighting Brienne; Catelyn struck a deal with the Lannisters for her daughters and a Lannister always pays his debts. So there is nothing to be gained by Jaime, nothing to change the deal, only his personal pride by killing an agent of Catelyn (who the family is making the dealing with).

It just seems like lazy writing by GRRM/HBO to inject conflict in a journey of two people, as if the external threats werent enough...
redline248
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Catelyn struck a deal with Jaime, not the lannisters. If Jaime gets away from brienne he can go back to his dad and not all the way to kings landing. Get back to fighting sooner, and they still have the Stark daughters hostage.
The Debt
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No, Catelyn made a deal with the Lannisters of KLs via Littlefinger (the bones of Ned were a show of goodwill).

Tyrion set up this deal with his sister saying something like
Tyrion: We will bargain the Stark girls for Jaime
Cersei: The Robb Stark would never make that deal, dumbass
Tyrion: Correct, but Catelyn would...
