Not at all. It's the first thing GRRM tells you about him when he is introduced. The show did a piss poor job of explaining who he is. There's probably a ton of people, other than gigemags-99, who have no clue who he is or why he is there.

...especially when that scene is not even in the books.

Where did that happen in the episode?

What part of what I have said are you talking about?

gigemags-99 had no clue who is was. I clarified that for him him without telling him what happens in the future.

F***, yeah! Someone thinks I have a clue about GoT!!!

I'm usually about a sixer deep by the time I watch it...Doesn't help in following the story.

Ah, hell...I get it now. Well, at least we have established one thing; I like seeing my name in bold. Carry on...

BTK,

If you have read the books but don't have a strong knowledge of the show think before you post. LF was explained in terms of where he came from so that was fine.

We don't know about Qyburn yet though other than him being a guy that they just found half dead at Harrenhall. Who Qyburn is in the books and who he becomes in the show could also end up being very different. Until they explain IN THE SHOW who a person is you should'nt talk about them here because they may have a different plan for them. The story is going to start changing quite a bit as the seasons go on both because of time and financial constraints as well as the "butterfly effect" of changes from earlier.

At first I didn't like the changes but now I do, it's going to make the show far less predictable instead of just a regurgitation of the books which couldn't be done even with 1000 hours of screen time and an unlimited budget.

Ha! Actually I translated "other than" to "with the exception of".

Just watched...GIANTS!! This show is above and beyond anything that has ever been produced on tv. This season is going to be epic. That Dragon fried his own fish! So interested in the storylines in the north. I've held back on starting the book for fear of ruining the show, but I don't think I can resist anymore.

Rewatching season 1 and:

During the jousting tournament King Robert pours Eddard stark a glass of wine and tells him to drink and he replies "I'm not thirsty" then the king tells him again to drink and he does, in the backwater episode the queen says the same thing to Sansa with the same results

Not sure what this has to do with anything, I just thought it was cool

No, it's just a character trait of the Starks. They are a serious, pragmatic, honest-to-a-fault family. Ned didn't want any wine because it was too early in the day. Sansa didn't want any wine because she was a scared child at that moment. The similar scenes emphasize that Sansa and Ned are alike. But Sansa is learning when to keep her mouth shut and obey, something Ned never did.

I rewatched a lot of season 2 over the last 4-5 days (fastforwarding through boring and "non-depth" parts). Man....I had forgotten how AWESOME the interactions/conversations between Arya and Tywin, Tyrion and just about anyone at Kings Landing (especially Cersei) were.

Reminded me of how much I love this show and the acting/writing in it.

This season is going to be FUN!

I agree with the guys who struggle with names.

All the older men (and there's about 10 of them) look identical to me, so sometimes I have to listen to what they're saying and who they're saying it to so that I can figure out who they are. Last night, I had to think "oh, he's talking to the lady with the smoke monster who came out of her cooch? He must be Stannis." Luckily, I can tell all the women apart for the most part.

"The Hot Dragon Lady" (as I call her) has a body guard. So does the Dwarf. Those 2 guys and Arya's late father all look essentially the same to me. But I can tell them apart based on who else is there with them (plus Arya's dad is no longer around anyway). Last night, when the dwarf's bodyguard was with the naked chick, I went that entire scene wondering which guy he was until I learned who had called for him.

I used to get Rob Stark, the gay guy who was killed by the smoke monster, and John Snow mixed up a lot in season 1, but I've got them figured out now.

It also hurts that I struggle understanding British accents, too. But luckily, that hasn't been that much of an issue for me like it normally is.

I would argue that Ned did learn that. In fact it was practically his mantra. Remember the scene with Cersei and Ned in KL where she talks to him about how he always follows orders, because he was raised to be a soldier, not a leader. It's not until he's forced to take action to protect what he views as the honorable way that he actually speaks up/acts out (first with the assassination of Danerys, then with the issue of succession), and we all know how that turned out for him.

As a result, I tend to agree with the idea that it's about their reluctance to enter the "southern" world, of wine and politics and deceit.
