I admit, I forgot there was a gate. For some reason I was thinking climbing the wall was the only way back.

I'm trying to remember back to that season 2 finale and see if there was any difference b/w any of the ones shown.

I thought they all look alike too...if for no other reason than it's easier/cheaper to model one face for cgi.

The history of the second sons, is that they are among the elite sellswords, in this part of the world. And that they always honor a contract.

You must have watched the special deleted scenes in which the Night's Watch army all descended the wall on grapple hooks.

Or are you confusing that with GI Joe: Retaliation?

Lot's of T&A is always good. Best looking girl was the ***** on the captain's lap, though.

So are we saying that the white walkers and the zombies are two different things???

Why weren't Dany's dragons guarding her? Couldn't afford the cgi?

Maybe they were out fishing? But I was wondering the same. I'm sure they are too big for their cages now.

I wondered that as well. They weren't there when the 3 guys showed up...and they weren't there with her when the one assassin came in at the end. Thought that was unique.

And was anyone else hoping Ser Barristan could have had the shot at killing the really rude captain (Dany: "and Ser Barristan....if it comes to battle...kill that one first." Gladly your grace) Based on what Ned said in the first season, how he threatened the Kings Guard when Joffery removed his title, and how Jorah got a little bit freaked out when he first showed up near Dany, you get the idea that old dude can flat bring it. And I REALLY want to see that happen.

And for everyone who is asking what Sam used to kill the whitewalker....who the Second Sons were....etc., are you guys skipping over the "previously on Game of Thrones" clips before each episode? Because if so, that basically fills in a lot of the likely upcoming questions that the show is going to generate. Last night on the "previously" segment it made a big deal out of Dany talking about "they say they have powerful friends....find out who they are". Thus...when they see the horseriding army showing up at the city they're about to conquer and Jorah starts explaining who they are, how many, sell-swords, good fighters, etc. then it explains itself out. Same with Sam and the big arrowhead thing he had. He's explaining to the baby-mama what he found, 45 minutes later he's pulling it out of his coat and stabbing a zombie with it.

I've noticed that with previous weeks as well...they don't just show random things in the previous section...everything they're showing is going to be brought into the mix during the current episode so it's good to pay attention to that.

Yes, they are different.

the white walkers are the grandpa winter dudes that Sam killed last night, never human as far as we know. the zombies were once human that died and are somehow reanimated

Are they related? If a white walker attacks you do you turn into a zombie?
aggie93

Yes, that is why the wildlings burn the bodies of any of their folks that die because otherwise they will be reincarnated as wights.

The "Previously on GOT" is really important as is the map. There is so much going on and it is hard to know what to focus on detail wise. They knew a lot of people would forget that Sam found the daggers and cloak in Season 2. Just no way of getting around that this show takes some effort to keep up with it.

To be fair, we don't know exactly how the dead get turned into the wights/zombies. however, based on the scene where the few walkers are leading the large zombie army, I think it's safe to assume they are the ones that create the zombies.

They all look alike.

Which begs the question, why didn't he kill Sam at that time instead of walking past him.
mhayden

They possibly don't kill people who aren't posing a threat to them? If I recall, Sam was cowering in fear when he was first in contact, whereas last night he had his sword drawn.

I think he was just there for the baby.

I was wondering what was up with the tree with the face. I was also hoping one of those birds was Bran or Reed looking for Jon Snow.

Plus I doubt the white walkers want that fat whiny load in their army.

The tree was similar/same as tree in the little area outside Winterfell (where Bran would go sit by the little pool of water). Also one where Jon Snow went and prayed when he was accepted into the Nights Watch (north of the wall when his wolf brought him the severed hand). God tree....or Gods Wood....something like that.

All the weirwood trees have faces carved on them and drip red sap that looks like blood. The folks in the North that worship the Old Gods consider them sacred and pray in front of them. There are lots of scenes in Winterfell in front of their weirwood. Jon and Sam both say their vows before weirwoods. In the South most of the weirwoods were cut down long ago as they worship "The New Gods" aka "The Seven" but they still have "Godswoods" where people can worship. Sansa has gone to the one in KL several times but it is just a tree stump.

The Starks are unusual because they traditionally worship the Old Gods but Catelyn worships The New (being from the South) and thus their children worship both.

Which episodes was all that in? Better cite your sources.

In season 1, Jon Snow burns the zombie guy in the watch commander's room, landing himself that sweet sword as a thank you. The dude Sam stabbed last night looked totally different.
tamusc
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Correct, Jon Snow burned a wight (aka zombie) and Sam killed a White Walker last night.

All of that and a lot more detail is on the HBO "Non Spoiler" website. It's also been covered in multiple episodes. It is clear from how the show has been set up they want people to understand the different religions and how they work.

So then what are the bigass devil looking things that we see at the very beginning of Season 1 episode 1? The creature that kills a group of the Nights Watch and the squirrely blonde haired guy runs away from, eventually being beheaded by Ned Stark for deserting?

That thing was different than the zombies and old man winter from last night
Stive
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No...that was a White Walker (same as last night)....just a bit different looking.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but that zombie horse was pretty awesome the white walker was riding. I'd like to see his army fight the dragon army in a showdown of awesomeness.

Shouldn't Sam be losing girth as his body metabolises the excess calories because he isn't eating as much and his body needs warmth?

his confusion came from not knowing the difference between the white walkers and the wights, I don't think he was inferring that Sam would become one from their altercation
