That's how I took it as well. Stamina gave a part of himself (sperm?) to make the smoke baby.
So, can someone give me cliff notes on this thread? Not only did I have a vacation, but I just recently got caught up with S3. Lotsa good stuff.
I didnt like the build-up or lack thereof for the mutiny against Mormont. It seemed very shallow, especially if you are gonna wax the Lord Commander.

The two scenes, Tywin + Tyrion and Tywin + Cersei were really well done.
Tyrion demands Casterly Rock because he is the only male heir legally able to inherit. Tywin has a lot of hate toward him and his lechery.
Cersei suggests primogenitor be damned, give everything to your daughter. Tywin calls her a fool flat-out. He sees that she plays checkers, when he plays chess.

I think the build up and mutiny for the lord commander was there since they left the wall and went north. A lot of the men didn't want to do that and resented him for it, they showed this somewhat.
But I would agree it did kind of seem like Rast just had it out for the old bear, and no real explanation about killing him besides the scuffle at Craster's.

It's funny, of all the various story lines in the show, the Nights Watch is the one I just really don't care about anymore. Once Jon Snow left, I lost any investment in them I'd had (and honestly there wasn't much to begin with). Hopefully it gets more interesting OR gets less screen time, but I'm not confident either will actually happen.
The watch characters aren't that interesting now that jon and old bear are gone... but it's clear they're building to HUGE events at/along the Wall. Events that will impact perhaps ALL of the other storylines.
If you recall, when Jon wanted to ride south to help Robb, Mormont asked him if the squabbles of 7 Kingdoms is more important than their war. That shut Jon down and he stayed.

aggie93, do you have any idea where to get these bad boys? I ordered the Hedge Knight Pt. 1 on Amazon for like $90, but can't find Sworn Sword or Mystery Knight anywhere...I even checked the comic book store in H-Town and they said they've been out of print for a while. I'd give my sword hand for the other two books.
I read them online for free as a PDF. I would just Google it and download it, I can't remember the site I read them from but I don't thin I even had to download it. The tricky thing is the 3 stories are in 3 separate books. He has said he wants to write up to 10 more but on the next one he wants to put it with the first 3 in an anthology. Of course he is working on Winds of Winter right now so who knows what happens.
The only thing that is tough about reading them if you haven't read the other books is to know what you can apply from the current stories to these as so much is different. It's a very different world and it deals with many things mentioned in the books but not in the show. You have to kind of leave your biases at the door in regards to the different Houses because they were all very different back then with the Targs firmly running things. I don't think there are any straight up spoilers per se though. They are a fun read.

The Hedge Knight is in the Legends anthology by Robert Silverburg. Legends II has The Sworn Sword. Both anthologies are available as ebooks on Amazon for about $8 each. The Mystery Knight is available in another anthology called Warriors by GRRM and Gardner Dozois. It's about $9 as an ebook on Amazon.
Thanks for the info, dudes. I'm kind of old fashioned though, I want that paper so I guess I'll have to quest for the actual hard copies and hopefully find part 2 when I finish the first one. I just started feast for crows (couldn't wait any longer) so I should be able to keep up.

And if that wasn't enough, the writers changed his name from Awsha to Freddie, and made him a Dornishman instead of Ghiscari! Argh!
