I'm surprised the local numbers have been so low.
Have to test positive to be reported and to test positive you have to be tested.

Agreed. Wife is an RN. I know it's 3rd hand, but her friends in local hospitals noted last night that things are still pretty light. May be the quiet before the storm, but given the exponential growth expected, it just seems quiet.

Our neighbors (RN & surgeon) and my wife (PT prof) have similar stories. Methodist, Parkland, and UTSW are discharging what they can, limiting elective surgeries, and freeing up beds. Not because they expect 500 admits a day. It's part of their preparedness plans for all sorts of emergencies.

I have full faith in our medical communities to handle whatever may come.

Just because you test positive doesn't mean you automatically end up in the hospital, likewise those that go to the hospital are getting tested.

I do think perhaps the climate and relative lack of mass transit is helping keep spread in D/FW low. Schools are also out for spring break in spots and will continue to be.

While not going out and licking doorknobs I'm cautiously optimistic that we are not days away from a complete meltdown here, our peak may be in April now, rather than March giving us time to better prepare without stressing our infrastructure.

Isn't this backwards? Don't we want to extend out the peak as far as possible?

I guess it depends on how high the peak is.

I'd still think a delayed peak will be an ideal peak as that gives reasonable time for better preparation, supplies and finding treatments?

I think they are attempting to say the delayed peak is only 1 month from now (good news) and not 3 months (bad news).

Assuming the same number of people get infected (everyone) you want a lower peak that will last longer as a steady plateau. That means you peak earlier.

Does a liquor store count as any of those things described in Wilonsky's tweet? Asking for a friend.

I think I heard 7 days, but city council meets Weds. And could extend it.

Dallas PD are enforcing. No idea what the penalty is.

I think right now it "under further notice". Council is meeting tomorrow to discuss

Hope isn't a strategy. Go to the site below and support some local places by grabbing pick up

Is the idea that if someone making your food has it you can't catch it? I would like to see some support for this food pickup idea as safe.

Also I get sense that restaurants make most of their profit on liquor and wine markup. Simply holding open for dry service wont pay the bills.

Sitting 3 feet from strangers, touching any common surface like tables, chairs, doorhandles, plates, and then your mouth, meeting in large parties eating family style, ect.

That is what they are trying to avoid.

It's also a conspiracy to have the lizard people take over our planet and make us their slaves. This us the first step to a totalitarian rule.

Many do and those that don't still get a large % from booze sales.

When we wake up from this there are going to be a metric sh^t ton fewer places to eat in this city. Restaurants are a crap shoot in a good economy much less no economy. Really, really sucks.

They aren't thinking through the pickup part, outside of trying to throw a bone to restaurant owners.

You can absolutely get it from someone who prepared your food, bagged it, brought it out to you for pickup, etc.

In Italy, one of the mass spreaders for the outbreak was a guy working two restaurant jobs that refused to quarantine when he was sick.

The hope is people use common sense in terms of illness, but I understand the money aspect. These next 15 days will be tough on the millions of workers in these industries nationwide.

if only those restaurants had switched to takeout only! But seriously I assume and hope the restaurants here will be implementing their own strict cleaning regulations and employee screening for those handling food.
