You didn't happen to bury it in a large mound of dirt or see any signs that said "Semetary" nearby, right?
Sometimes, dead is better.

What we got here? Lil buddy was just hanging out in my back yard licking the air.. almost seemed completely oblivious to my presence for a good few seconds.

For grins, spotted these two facing off tonight. It's been an active night for critters around my place.

Rat snake. Harmless.

That coon might have met his match with a pretty good size possum. At best a draw I'd think.

Notice how the snake's body looks crinkled. That's a dead give away it's a rat snake. The coloration/pattern also give it away

Not a snake but thought it looked cool

Here's a picture from google of a man holding one. Shows you how big they really are.

Just another reason I love this thread. I got to share my new knowledge of Regal moth larva with the kids and it made mom look super cool.

Can (did) that snake get that big of a fish down the hatch?

I'm wondering why it's tail first

I didn't have an hour+ to sit there and watch, but I bet that's right in the cusp of too big for that snake. I could see it going either way. Tail first definitely isn't ideal, but trout fins are soft so it may not be a problem.

I'm typically pro snakebut this b***h was sitting in the dark about 4 inches from my two year old. Counting my blessings tonight that he didn't take a wrong step and that I saw him soon enough

I'm with you on that one. Got a two year old of my own.

Wife had a big rat snake meet her at the front door again. Apparently they like climbing the front door. This time she didn't let go a bloodcurdling scream but she did say something to the effect of "are you fuming kidding me?".

4' rat snake was caught in the front flowerbed and relocated.

Coworker said he came home the other day and a 3-4 foot rat snake was on top of his fridge. No idea how it got in his house.

The pattern is pretty typical for a juvenile cottonmouth.

Didn't have my phone to snap a photo and haven't been able to find a good picture online that was similar, so looking for some ID help.

Was cleaning out the landscaping last weekend when I spotted a 24"-30" long danger rope that was coiled under one of the agave I was pruning. First inclination was to chop his head, but I decided to let him wriggle away. Mostly black snake with bright yellow spots/markings on the back in a linear type pattern. Probably 3/4" - 1" at it's widest part and smallish head. I had just found part of his shed in another part of the yard, which was surprising because I don't usually get snakes in the yard, so he was bright. This was in Austin.
