It's been at least 1 year but not much over that. I want to say March 2020 is when it ended.

Got a link to that? Because the TxPW page I linked above still says it's prohibited.

There have been texas coral Snake bites to children and as of yet none have resulted in death. I have seen the neurotoxin cause some moderate paraesthesia in adults with some associated shortness of breath, but never to the point of respiratory failure. Children are definitely more at risk of severe neurotoxicity. I too would be concerned for a small child with a coral snake bite. Even more concerned if they were less than 50 lbs .
What happened to Red & Yellow kill a fellow? Is there a US coral snake more toxic than the Texas version?

We used to catch a few a year in South Austin and relocate them.

The Arizona and Eastern Coral snakes have both caused documented deaths. There are three recognized species of coral snake now which used to be considered subspecies of a single species.

That looks like a copper head to me. I had to gig one of those one night. Anyone seen any timber rattlers in Red River county?

Copperhead for sure.Tried my best to relocate him but with his nasty disposition he, at best, was uncooperative. Unfortunately, like Luca Brasi, he now sleeps with the fishes.

Wow, you're a better man than me. I relocate all the non-venomous ones, but I've never even attempted a venomous relocation!

Pretty sure not a rat snake, but had to turn around on an FMR west of Gillett to scoop him across the road resulting in a pretty poor picture. I can't say the truck that passed by tried to hit him, but sure didn't seem to try to go to the side too much. He tried to pee on me but I saw that trick before.

TPWD would appreciate a report about where you saw that one. They have a form on their website to report it.

And just now freed a coachwhip from the snake netting we put up around the barn. Looks like we caught him coming out of his hole. We were able to pull him out and cut the netting off. He left rather quickly but hopefully doesn't get caught again.

The fact that you even tried impresses me. I wouldn't even attempt it. And that snake can sleep with the snakes for all i care.

First catch of the year.

spray some purple paint or something on them this year, so we can track if you have 1000 resident coppers or just 5 who like to come back every few days
I think it would be better if he used those little decorative beaded collar things that ladies like to put around the stem of their wine glasses so they can tell which glass is theirs. I can just imagine the neighbors starting to see copperheads hanging around wearing jewelry...

I vote that he puts adorable little hats on them.

The snake did not survive the encounter, but he has two small children and I can't say I'd have done any different in his situation.
