I figured we could use this for those of us who haven't read the books.

Just finished season 2 last night and am really looking forward to next season. Glad I got into this show.

I really hope Joffrey gets murdered soon, or at least gets his ass handed to him by Tyrion some more. Also can't wait to see what's in store with the dragons.

It's about time. Now you can obsess over a show besides breaking bad

I thought Blackwater was very reminiscent of Two Towers. Tyrion's speech kicked major ass.

If you are interested in reading the books, but have not decided to buy them yet, I'd highly recommend it. If you thought the Battle of the Blackwater (King's Landing) was good on HBO, IMO it was much more dramatic in the books. You will not be disappointed.

I don't know that I would say it was more dramatic, the show did a really great job I think the books were just able to take more time and go in to more detail. They blew something like 60% of the 10 show budget on that one episode to make it essentially movie quality which was pretty damn cool. Martin admitted to do Blackwater as described in the book would have cost over $100 million and you just can't do that (probably even for a movie). Dinklage was amazing and I loved the "Rains of Castemere" which is the song they sang in the pub early on and at the end. I don't think it is a spoiler to say that song is very popular in Westeros and is based on telling the tale of how Tywin Lannister completely destroyed the Houses of some of his bannerman that stood up to him and is part of why he is such a feared character.

I'm really psyched looking at some of the trailers for this season, those dragons are getting big!

It's not even so much about spoilers for me, I just don't give 2 sh*ts about the books. If i cared about the books, I would read them. I just don't understand why someone always has to come in and say, "Oh man, X was way better in the book, you guys don't even know!!1!" There's a separate thread for that, no one here cares.

Looking forward to this. I stopped at book 2 because I don't want to read ahead of the shows.

I've heard that book 3 and 4 run concurrently. How are they going to work that with the show?

Anyway, more dragons would be good, more nekkid dragon mother would be better

Book 4 and 5 run concurrently for a large portion.

3 does not.

TV show is breaking book 3 into 2 seasons, so don't have to worry about how they'll handle books 4 and 5 for a couple years.

This isn't a spoiler just better explaining the dynamics of the seven kingdoms. Each kingdom is held by a family, but in every kingdom they have a ton of noble families. In every kingdom it's just like the iron throne, every noble family is hoping to become the lord of that kingdom.

In the North, the Starks rule. The second most powerful house in the north are the Bolton's. Roose Bolton was the one who was Robb's advisor and 2nd in command in the later half of the 2nd season. He was the one that sent a raven to his ******* to reclaim winterfell for Robb when Theon took winterfell. The Starks have a pretty good hold of the north, the dude whose son was killed by Jaime, their family is the Karstarks. Look familiar? There are a ton of families in the north that have married and mingled with the Starks for centuries.

Remember when theon keeps bragging that the Greyjoys have held the island for 400 years, this should tell you other families could have ascended to become lords of the iron islands.

Saying tywin's "bannermen" started a conflict is kinda a half truth. Lannisters are gold lions in a red field, the 2nd most powerful family rose up (red lion on white field) and a few other families joined. So there was a civil war for casterly rock. Tywin took care of business and ended that family's line.

(And no that's not a spoiler, because there is no way they divert screen time to go into all that. It's what journalists would call "deep background")

The mother of dragons. Wood.

Also, is it creepy that I think Sansa is hot?

Also, was watching an interview yesterday with George Martin, talking about how she (Danaerys) is 13 in the books. Glad they cast her older, because we never would've gotten to see her naked.

It's kinda hard to have those scenes with viserys inspecting her taking about her breasts with a 13yo.

For people who haven't read the books, what exactly are you expecting for Season 3? This is easily my favorite of the books and it's always interesting to see watcher's takes on the story.
sharkenleo
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'll tell you what I expect - **** to get real.

But specifically, I'd like to see Robb Stark team up with the Baratheon army and make another attempt to overthrow Joffrey.

But Tyrion should not be harmed. In fact, he should remain permanent hand of the king as far as I'm concerned.

Also can't wait to see the dragons when they start growing up. And I'm curious if Winterfell is basically wiped out for good.

And yes, if Ygritte is who I think it is (the redhead that keeps trying to rape Jon Snow), WOOD. She is so gorgeous.
