In other words, it's looking more and more likely that all of Hollywood shuts down on July 1, with or without the DGA. When and if that happens, the AMPTP is screwed, and basically loses its leverage. They'll likely posture for a time after that, but at that point I just can't see the strike not being resolving by/at some point during August.

I'll be the ahole and ask

aren't network shows on ABC CBS NBC and Fox already bleak?

and does this impact Jeopardy?

Yes, broadcast fare is already bleak, but that's relatively speaking, seeing as broadcast shows still see WAY more viewership than just about everything else on TV. They're just not high as they were 10-15 years ago.

As for Jeopardy, the questions written for the show *are* written by WGA writers, but all questions for the current season were written in advance of the strike, and despite blowback from picketers, this past week Ken Jennings hosted the final week of the season. That said, I have no idea how far out they shoot, or for how many days/weeks/months the current stash of filmed episodes will last.

I had read that wheel of fortune films a whole months worth of episodes in a few days rapid fire, and then the whole month most people are off.

Not sure if that's true but it is always different contestants….jeopardy always has a returning champion so I'd guess they'd still film in chunks just not as aggressive as WoF

That being said from what I read they only sound like they have roughly a months worth of episodes done ahead of time…

This was the CEO pay in 2021…

I'm usually on the politics board, and am pretty conservative, but this is a pretty political topic, so here I am...

This is so much like many corporations -- the people making the product, laboring over these works that sometimes make tons of money, get paid peanuts, while the CEO's make more money than they could spend in 100 lifetimes.

It's more frustrating coming from Hollywood, who are constantly preaching about fairness and inclusiveness, but it's just another example of an amazingly out-of-whack wage gap.

I understand that big risks are taken at the top, but does that really justify those people making 1,000 times more money than the people at the bottom?

It seems like these people at the top would eventually have so much money that they would want to reward those below them for aiding in their financial success. But that never seems to happen.

No, those people usually go on TV to complain about people like me not paying their "fair share".

J! tapes 5 a day, or at least they used to before the pandemic.

How many writers make similar money? If there are 50 writers making a quarter of what the CEOs make is that fair? The fight isn't really about wage, it's about compensation and residuals.

Michael Schur, the writer interviewed in the podcast above, has as estimated net worth well over $100 million after signing a 5-year $100 million deal with Universal before the pandemic.

All good questions. I don't know the answers. People should be payed what they're worth, but who decides that? Great writers should make great money, but how much is that? It's not a new problem, but has always bothered me in situations where the people at the top make more money rhan some small countries.

As a DGA Unit Production Manager, my rate for the basic agreement on location is $8698 per week + $1604 location fee + Pension and Health.

The big question mark is how much work will there be? You never have consistent employment. That is why I moved into producing.

Looks like HBO/MAX decided to mess around with how they list writers and directors credits. It now just lumps them together as Creators

Right?

I would assume someone might have said, "Hey maybe now isn't the best time to try and tweak things. Those people outside the office sure seem upset and I bet their friends and coworkers are also on edge".

It's pretty simple. Every one of these productions had to date and submit a shooting draft of their script prior to the strike. Then, once the movie itself is released, if any of the dialogue in the movie doesn't match the script that was submitted, there will be consequences. Meaning potential expulsion from the WGA. Meaning those members who were expelled can no longer work on studio productions. It's pretty serious stuff, and all very official.

Granted, they can get around some of that via reshoots, after the strike. But the whole production is likely going to have shut down in a month anyway, if SAG decides to strike as well. Which is why so many of these productions aren't even bothering going forward, until all of this is worked out, and the ones that *are* stubbornly moving forward are considered ill-advised.

Ever seen "The Player" with Tim Robbins?

It was on one of the cable channels a few weeks back. There was a scene or two w/ studio execs talking about why can't they just make movies without the writers. Thought about it when I read Justine Bateman's long twitter thread about potential for AI generated movies in the very near future.
