The WGA strike is just the beginning. I believe we are about to witness an unprecedented multi-union stand for proper rights and proper financial participation for film & TV creatives in all avenues of distribution. This will prove to be a watershed year.

The #WGA strike is, I hope, just the first. Something has to fundamentally change in this society. The balance of power is lopsided to a degree it hasn’t been in a hundred years. Here’s hoping this strike is the tip of the spear. Someone has to do something. Why not us?

I fully realize that you and I pretty much can't stand each other, don't care, and surely you don't either. But if you posted that tweet as a sign you stand with the writers and other craft, I am in agreement with you.TCTTS said:The #WGA strike is, I hope, just the first. At a guess, the Amazons and Apples are against this in part because they're (allegedly) losing a ****load of money on their streaming services (largely due to circumstances within their control).TCTTS said:
Very well said, and I agree 100%. That's also cool to hear about your executive approach, and my hat off to you for going against the grain in that regard. Honestly, you and I probably aren't that far apart on this stuff, or even politically. I think a lot gets misinterpreted and projected in the noise here, which I'm as much to blame for as anyone.
I'm also not a big union guy or anything, and am not even a member myself. I just want see A) people treated/compensated fairly, and B) these corporations finally have to concede in some way, shape, or form. Granted, based on what I'm hearing, it sounds like it's not even the traditional studios who are being the staunchest, it's Big Tech - Netflix, Amazon, Apple, etc - who, being the new guys on the content block, either don't fully understand how this industry has operated for decades - or - don't care. Probably a little of both. Either way, all the better that they hopefully get a dose of reality too. It sounds like, if there's something on the AMPTP side to cause a fissure, it'll be the old guard vs. the new guard battle, which the unions can hopefully take full advantage of and exploit.
Not only did @WGAEast disrupt the #BILLIONS shoot, Liz Hynes @anticapitaliZm heard from an IATSE pal that an "unnamed lead actor" in BILLIONS didn't respond to production calls today. "Lead actor's not picking up his phone"! Bets on who?? #WritersStrikehttps://t.co/an7Nph4xq7

Every writer on a show I'm running receives a single-spaced SEVEN PAGE document about the role of a writer on set. It is SEVEN PAGES SINGLE SPACED. I wrote it because I'm pissed off that so few writers get on set experience when writers on set are integral to good TV. #wgastrong

I'm not sure which media companies are making lots of money. There is an article going around claiming the studios have a plan to use AI during the strike. This is mostly anti-strike propaganda meant to discourage writers, but I certainly believe it’s something they’d like to do. For now it’s a hollow threat for a few reasons…

If they were truly as far apart as the tweet above suggests, I'm afraid this is going to get really, really ugly, and last quite a while. The only hope is that basically no one is on the side of the studios this go around, so hopefully they cave sooner rather than later, especially with the added pressure from the DGA and SAG negotiations next month.
WHY HAVE A TV WRITER ON SET?
— Sera Gamble (@serathegamble) May 6, 2023
Since they already wrote the script (and rewrote it 8 times, and tweaked it after the table read)?
Glad you asked, here's a thread.
I don’t think folks realize how fucked shows in production are right now.

As a big WoT fan, this hits too close to home. So much unused potential in that story.
