AT-AT is not the same as the AT-ACT. They probably were more heavily armored

Had my 2nd viewing today, took the family. The last 2 days, it was either sold out or near capacity in every showing at our local theater (3 screens I think).

I enjoyed it even more this time around. No one in my family knew about the 2 CGI characters and didn't know it until I told them afterwards. I thought Tarkin looked much better in 2D than 3D, wasn't nearly as distracting. I'm in the minority still, but I thought Leia looked real.

My wife and 2 kids all absolutely loved it, as did I.

If an X-wing can blast an imperial walker why did they sacrifice so many pilots in those T-47 airspeeders in the battle of Hoth?

It's not considered canon anymore, but one of Stackpole's books describe the snow speeder's as having very weak blasters meant for clearing away ice and snow. They were much weaker than military blasters on the X-Wing's.

I always liked that description.

Because they were trying evacuate Hoth, not win the battle. They probably did not want to sacrifice their X-wings.

Okay. Thanks for this and the other explanations.

If I remember right, one of the nameless commanders mentions early on the X-wings are having trouble adapting to the cold. That's why they don't use them to fight the walkers on Hoth.

I recognize that this is a bad movie, and that Hayden Christensen is indeed terrible in it... but I still really like it

Insert irony since they operate in the vacuum of space. Guess outer space is warmer than Hoth.

They were having trouble with the speeders and the cold, not the x-wings. The statement is made when Han wants to go out in the evening to look for Luke.

I think they were using x-wings to escort transports... though, I'm not sure if it is stated or implied. Like I said, the goal once they were found by the Empire was to get away. No reason to waste their fleet.

It's the airspeeders they had trouble adapting to the cold, which is why they were using Tauntauns.

Ask if it were another young actor playing HC's character if it would have been a better movie?

He was bad in it, but again (like SW) I don't think another actor could have done better with Jumper either.

Should have just been a movie with HCs character teaming up with that other jumper guy taking on SL Jackson and his goons without the terrible pointless love story that sucked up most of it.....

Hell they still could have left the story arc of his mom being a part of the cult pursuing them which is why she had to abandon him

Makes me think, has he done anything since Jumper or has SW destroyed another actors career?

Does the family of Peter Cushing receive royalties from his likeness being used in the new film? I would imagine they would.

So did the little kid who played Anikan in TPM soon afterwards....

Course the only other movie I can think of with him in it is Jingle All The Way

Hot sports opinion: I think it would have been interesting if they put Hayden in the Bacta and the suit. Proving they can do things better than Lucas is a worthy goal for Disney, and using HC successfully would have been a good step if they could manage it.
Dude can't act, he would **** that scene up somehow.

He was not good in the prequels, but not sure it was all his fault. Ever seen Shattered Glass?
I will say he was decent in Life as a House, but I'm not sure how much acting he was doing.

I've not seen anyone else post about it, but the first shot of the Star destroyer in front of the Death Star was so terribly laughable. It looked like a couple of kids were filming their toys. It was shocking.

The rest of the movie made me forget about it. So much fun. I had heard about the Tarkin CGI and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was.

I would have loved a three hour movie to get more of the doomed characters more exposition. Can't wait to see it again.

I'm not sure how you'd expect that to look like. If Lucasfilm opted to instead build a full sized death star and star destroyer and place them in the same orientation to a similar sized sun, it would look identical to that. The graphics algorithms required to render that have been have been hashed out for several decades (unlike translucent human skin which is much more recent). If you think that looked fake, then it's probably your expectations that are wrong, not the rendering.

I'm assuming the proposed political subtext came from the scene where she was imploring the rebellion to get in the fight. They used the "hope" message about 6 times in 30 seconds which could have easily been interpreted as Obama's hope and change message, if you are a cynical person. If I put my politics board hat on it looks pretty blatant as a pro-Obama / anti-Trump message.

However, Occam's Razor says it was simply a nod to ANH.

I'll have to go back and watch it and see if it's the same shot but I noticed the same thing. It looked like they were filming a cheapo hobby shop model of a star destroyer.

I don't have a highly critical eye when it comes to movie magic (I was confused by Tarkin and Leia but didn't notice any obvious CGI) but the head on shop looked like it was made out of monochromatic plastic.

I get accused on this board of seeing everything through political glasses (and I'll agree). That's part of the reason I hate avatar and crap like that. But I didn't see any slant in Rogue One. Except the obvious comparison of the empire to Nazi Germany, but that's by design. I think all the Hope stuff was in reference to ANH. Nothing more.

When the trailer for Rogue One released I thought the star destroyer in front of the death star looked like really cheap plastic. I figured it was going to be polished up in editing. Nope. I think it just looked too white. All the other shots of star destroyers looked fine.
