So on a 2nd viewing I liked it even more, mainly because the somewhat disjointed beginning didn't bother me since I knew how it all pieced together, and also I wasn't in the super sound system theater this time so the music on the planet intros didn't seem so overdramatic.
One thought I had though is that if the movie might have been better off with an opening crawl. Now, I'm on the record as saying I always want a crawl in a SW film, but I understand the argument for not doing so for the non-episodes. But given that some people are definitely confused by the beginning, I wonder if a crawl couldn't have helped by providing a bit of back story for people who haven't read Catalyst. Something to the effect of (but written by a professional):
"After discovering the Galactic Empire is weaponizing his energy research, kyber crystal specialist Galen Erso has gone into hiding with his wife and daughter on the planet _____ with the help of the controversial insurgent Saw Gerrera.
After months/years of searching, Director Orson Krennic has finally tracked his former friend and colleague down, and must now bring him back into the Imperial fold to save the beleaguered Death Star project and bring order to the galaxy...."
