Welp we're done. Frustrating cuz it's not like GS did anything special defensively. We just haven't made wide open shot all series. Need to address the rebounding and find another piece in the off-season.

All GS did was collapse on drives and watched the Mavs brick wide open shots. Brutal to watch it play out like that. Once Kleber turned back into a pumpkin it was over. GS obviously presents a lot of problems for you defensively when Curry is rolling, but I never would have thought the Mavs shooting would turn like this.

They keep saying Luka needs to to X or Y to take the next step. His supporting cast is trash. Curry is a terrible defender but everyone's cool with it because he's surrounded by top draft picks

Bullock and Kleber a combined 0-15 taking open shots. Losing by 7. Unbelievable.

Luka quit for 90 seconds in the second quarter when he got an offensive foul. GS did a 10-0 run while Luka whined and bricked 2 shots in that stretch.

This is where Luka needs to grow up fast.

Mavs are too soft and slow and can't adjust. They need better players.

If we hit 40% of open 3s then we're up 2-1

Yea, that lazy take is so ****ing infuriating to be forced to listen to.
We just need to literally upgrade 2-3 players minimum.

Yeah that's why we lost, because Luka missed two shots

No excuse in beating PHX but being on the verge of getting swept by GS. GS is going to get their shots and shoot well, but our shooting and rebounding is so painful.

We lost for about 25 reasons throughout the game. This was one of them along with lots of others mentioned. We all love Luka but the team has a lot of holes, and Luka has plenty of room to grow which is an amazing thing to say as he's so damn special already

In the end I really don't mind the shots the Mavs created. They wouldn't be down 3-0 right now with Kleber, DFS and Bullock shooting the way they did last series. GS just isn't doing anything special defensively which makes this even worse.

It's been fun boys. Too few dudes playing a lot of minutes finally caught up to us. Should the Mavericks not complete the impossible and come back, I'm looking forward to the off-season!

Goebert would be the perfect addition if possible. They need more of defensive and rebounding presence down low. Powell wouldn't start for 28 other teams.

Golden State has 4 guys who can create their own shot, and they have much better perimeter defenders than Phoenix.

When Chris Paul went into a shell like he always does at some point in the playoffs, it basically became Luka and friends vs Devin Booker and friends in a jump shooting contest. Dallas can win that because Luka is a more complete offensive layer than Booker and all but one player the Mavs give meaningful minutes to can shoot the three reasonably well.

With Golden State, they have a bunch of guys who can create their own shot and get to the rim and give you a lot more hell on defense.

I'm really not ready to think about the off-season. Not because that means this season is over, but because to take the next step something enormous has to happen, including things we don't talk about at parties.

Let's win Game 4.

Golden State has always played that way. The old "jump shooting teams can't win titles" is largely still true because there has only been one exception. The Warriors have had two of the four best shooters ever on their team for a decade now. They have always banked on nobody else being able to win if you consistently make them shoot long jumpers all game in a 7 game series. They can because they have two guys who, at their peak, shot over 50% on "uncontested" three point attempts which was once thought impossible. Steph Curry once went an entire postseason shooting 59% on uncontested three point attempts. That's the most ridiculous stat in basketball history.

You can't win titles by relying on Maxi Kleber and DFS to hit open threes the entire postseason. It will fail you if that's al you have to support your star.

Too many of the 3 and D players are feast or famine. Also cannot have 3 or 4 of your rotation guys consistently giving you 4 pts or less.

Still proud they made it this far.

The Mavericks are one additional off ball scorer who can get to the rim and one rim defender away from being a leading title contender. Getting one of the other is probably going to happen this off-season. Getting both will be the hard part.

This series is very different with Rudy Goebert, Myles Turner, Donovan Mitchell or Damien Lillard on the Mavs roster. And I think the odds are over 50% that one of them is on this roster next season.

Open shots have been there all series. Maybe it's dead legs, maybe it's just role players doing role player things like going cold for several games. But this thing is over. That said, would be nice to see them push it to 6 games. Show something

The number of times we would hit a basket and the blink of an eye later Curry had beaten the defender down court for an easy layup or a trip the free throw stripe meant we were always going to be playing a massive game of needing to hit 3's simply to stay on pace.

Curry can get away without playing defense because he's typically got 2-3 other guys on the court that play really good defense and can rebound -- Mavs don't have that. So when Luka is taking the night off defensively it takes an already short-handed rebounding lineup and makes them even more malleable.

Team 1 has to hit open shots from 3 to have a chance to win.

Team 2 can win by hitting open shots from 3, having great rotation down low to a big and if that fails simply have their PG beat you down the court.

Team 2 is almost always going to win a 7 game series -- and it typically won't take 7 games to do it.

And I said it a while back and it still holds true -- when Jordan Poole took that next step and went from a guy that could give you 15 a game to a guy that could give you 20 a game... Once you add Curry back to that lineup...

There ain't a team in basketball that can match that in a 7 game series.

There is no player on this roster with the exception of Luka that would start for GS. That's how poor the talent level is around him.

That's not fair to our guys. GS starts 3 NBA Hall of Famers. When we took 4 out of 5 from Phoenix those same guys were playing really well. There are some down the bench guys that we could upgrade but we are very close.

Yep and it sucks. Give GS credit, even if they aren't playing lock down defense on each possession there is pressure on our team to score often and we aren't handling the pressure that well. Because you know during certain stretches of the game they are going to score on 5+ straight possessions.

Guarding all the weapons GS has all game is exhausting. GS was incredible for several years . . . and then they added 2 lottery picks and Poole is playing like one. When GS is clicking it's an impossible task. Hopefully we can position ourselves to keep making a run at them, wait for them to age out in 2 years, and still be able to hold off Memphis and whoever the Lakers find to pair with Anthony Davis.

Hot take, but that is why the Mavs lost. Gave up something like 20 second chance points. Mavs had 4-6 second chance points. Give up just a few less offensive rebounds and the Mavs win. Even with crappy shooting.

We were doing a better job of team rebounding/boxing out in the Suns series, where we still lost the rebounding edge but it didnt seem as bad.
Guys have tired legs I guess

Lets see if I can hit the clichs that can guide us to victory:

Game 4: Backs against the wall, show them we won't quit
Game 5: Due to steal one on the road
Game 6: Home crowd will be insane with a chance to even the series - players will feed off of that
Game 7: Anything can happen

It would be an absolutely fitting end to the cocky ass Warriors to be the first team to give up a 3-0 lead.

But it won't happen.

Warriors in 5.
