The local Phoenix press is torching the Suns. Wow.

Absolutely pathetic performance by the Suns.

All the credit to Luka and Kidd. I never would have thought the Mavs could comeback to win the series after Game 2. This game tonight was so ridiculously dominant.

Closing out the suns at home would have been amazing, but how awesome would it be to send them home after a game 7 in phx?

Pretty freaking awesome

I remember Don Nelson calling into Galloway before the series started. Sandbagged and joked, "We're a bunch of Schmoes coming to play the NBA's best team".

But he knew Dirk's game better than anybody else, gameplanned against it, and Baron Davis was unreal all series.

Don Nelson was/is a gem.

It's amazing watching all the biased ESPN talking heads backtrack today.

I can't get enough.

Especially with pat Beverly destroying Stephen a smith on first take.

The warriors are a matchup that's both awesome for the Mavs, and scary for the Mavs.

1. They don't have a good giant in the middle. The first two rounds, Gobert and Ayton could get what they wanted, when they wanted it for the most part (still have no clue why Phoenix didn't just plant him on the block every game, get all the Mavs big fouled out, and slow down the pace). That's the awesome part of the matchup. The scary part is that means they are going to stretch you out, drive and kick, and shoot as many 3s as the Mavs do. That can mean a ton of points in a hurry if your rotations are not perfect. Against the other two teams, they haven't had to worry as much about that aspect and just really rotate on 3-4 guys.

2. Foul trouble. Curry is going to get calls that Luka doesn't on the same type of drives. When you're much smaller, it just happens. Between that, Draymond getting somebody like Brunson switched on him and then backing down, and the bench's unfortunate forte for fouling three point shooters, foul trouble could end up being a real issue. And GS shoots FTs as good as any team.

3. Draymond Green being himself. Dude LOVES to get under the other team's skin. He's going to foul somebody hard, he's probably going to get at least a flagrant 1/technical at some point in the series. The Mavs are going to need to keep their heads above the fray and just let it roll off their back, not get sucked into it. Let the refs sort it out and focus on the rest of the game. When he gets you in your emotions, bad things can happen.

1.) flip side, there is no dominant shot blocker to deter our drives this series

Congrats on a great game 7! It couldn't have happened to a better player than Chris Paul.

3 Mavs players scored more than Booker and Paul combined! Awesome!

Theoretically he's the best suited on the Warriors to guard Luka 1:1. He's got the size and strength. The only problem is the Warriors rely on his 'Free Safety-QBing from the backline" of the defense. And assigning him to Luka might cost them more than it gives.

Wiggins has the foot speed and is the same height as luka but he just doesn't have the strength (or the dog mentality). I think we'll see Wiggins and Otto Porter with the primary defensive assignments on Luka throughout most of the game with Draymond picking his spots in crunch time.

That makes sense. Their team D relies on Draymond. Still, the idea that he could guard Luka for 40 mins without getting in foul trouble or wearing down as a distributor on the offensive side is insane to me.

Oh yea i dont think there's a player in the league that can check Luka for 40min. Ben Simmons or Giannis would be the best suited but asking Draymond to do that would be suicide for his legs in the 4th.

Draymond is also the guy that will get under Luka's skin by the first stoppage in Game 1. Gotta hope Luka uses it and doesn't fall victim to it.

Simmons is the only player who I've ever seen completely lock down Luka, and that was 2-3 years ago in Luka's sophomore season; things would probably go differently now. Luka is realistically unguardable if his shot if falling.

The great thing for Mavs fans is his offensive game is going to age incredibly well as he relies on little athleticism to score. Luka's going to be doing this for another 10+ years...

When his shot is falling Luka is akin to peak Harden offensively, insanely efficient and essentially unguardable. His step back jumper is unstoppable if have any intention of keeping him in front of you. If you don't, he'll just go right by you. Nobody in the NBA has the height/length/agility combo to defend all of that without giving something up.

Phoenix was the team I was most worried about this postseason. It will obviously be a very tough series, but I like our chances against GS.

It's crazy that we were around +250 underdogs in each of the first two rounds (first round would have been lower if they knew Luka would be back, but still). It got me thinking. Has any team ever been an underdog in each series and gone on to win the title? I'm guessing not off the top of my head.

Luka is much more efficient and progressive on offense than Harden. He's 10x the player that Harden is. Sorry for all you long time Rockets fans. I now understand how the Spurs fans felt about Tim Duncan all these years - everyone that wasn't a Spurs fan hated him, Spurs fans loved him. Just too good.

Agree about how his game should age (or not age). Unlike Jordan, Lebron, Kobe, etc, he's also a guy I look at and think "why can't more guys do this or at least some % of it?" He's not a particularly gifted outside shooter. Not explosive. But what he does have is solid handles for a bigger dude, and most importantly, he knows how to position his body relative to the defender to then generate opportunities (for himself and others). But that's where I think "why can't more guys figure that out and how is he so other worldly at it?" He puts these guys on his hip and then plays them like a fiddle

And his strength. "Gods, he's strong" *Robert Baratheon voice* Even if you have the footspeed and length to match Luka; that's only half the battle. He'll bully tf out of you if you don't have the force to match.

Luka has a "feel for the game" on offense that is probably 1 of 1 on this planet. He gives up a lot athletically and length wise, but makes up for it with vision, coordination, and by using his hips and strength. Lol
Trucker 96
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Which he already had when he was like 20. Just crazy to see a game that is essentially 99% savviness/feel at that age and with that massive delta between him and a league (and history of a league) doing it a lot longer than him

At his peak in Houston Harden was the most efficient scorer in the history of basketball, statistically speaking. He choked in big moments but he was the benchmark for efficient offensive output.

nah sorry, you're wrong per the usual. james was a better shooter, but had nowhere near the driving skills or in lane trickeration skills luka has. also f james harden. even rockets fans should have deleted any happiness he brought you guys by now. maybe the biggest dickbag in the history of the association

I had the feeling that PHX might melt down if things started bad for them. They just acted like such front running, ****** bags ("The Luka Special", CP3 and Booker laughing at Luka, etc...), there was no way they thought they were losing. But walking into a Game 7 you could see how tight they got once they missed a few shots, it was almost like a panic overtook them. They are a good team, but so mentally weak.
Proposition Joe
How long do you want to ignore this user?
PHX was screwed in the first 5 minutes when it was clear refs were going to let the the two teams play. When you have a drive to the hoop and/or post up in the paint team going against a long-range shooting team that is going to favor the latter tremendously.

yep, they should've learned from the 2011 mavs/heat....don't talk trash until after the series
