Word first started making the rounds last night, and discussion of a framework where Kristaps Porzingis potentially heads to Toronto has since circulated around NBA front offices. There's of course mutual interest in bringing Goran Dragic to Dallas. Unclear how serious talks are.

Bertans is making 16 mil in 2022-23 and 17 mil in 2023-24. Only 5 mil guaranteed in 2024-25.
Dinwiddie making 18 mil in 2022-23 and 18.8 in 2023-24.

Luka couldn't stand KP so he had to go
I mean, it's easier to move those contracts compared to KP's. For all the talk about Nico, he was handcuffed with KP's contract.
They have to be doing something else, though. There's no reason to go after Dinwiddie. None. He's a 6'5 guard that can't shoot.

It allows moves during the offseason. KP HAD to get off the books if he couldn't stay healthy (and he couldn't).

Cut Moses Brown, too. Had to make room for these two. Still need to cut one more if we're actually going to get Dragic.

That Bertans contract is horrible. Terrible trade. I'm not really going to miss KP, he was basically an always injured but very good role player. But this does nothing for the Mavs cap flexibility. Frankly makes it worse. There is nothing wrong with Dinwiddie in a 6th man role and Bertans in a specialty bench role. But you just can't pay those 2 dudes 30M for that job. I would rather take my chances with KPs health and wait until he is expiring for a big move.

In Washington, yeah. But he's over 40% from 3 on his career at 6'10. Halfway interested to see what he can do off the bench getting passes from Luka.
This year, the Mavericks had a better winning percentage without KP than with him.
We got him off the books so that we can make moves in the offseason. Great deal IMO.
