I love reading almost every off-season about how the Mavs have a special relationship with Bill Duffy and how they go out of their way to bend over backwards for his clients because it means he'll return the favor by steering a free agent here or making a club-friendly move . . . then stuff like this happens.

Why?
KP & Boban are locks to be on the roster, but WCS, Moses Brown, and even Maxi could be moved within a second (and i expect 1 of those 3 will be).
Picking up WCS's option just gives us more flexbility. If we need the $4m to sign a player, great, WCS can be traded for a 2nd round pick no problem. If we need to execute a trade, WCS can be added to whatever salary we send out. Or if we decide to keep him on a borderline league min contract, also great. 0 downside.
There's also just not a lot of great big man options

Agree on THJ. He's a guy I'd love to have back, but not at the expense of a ton of our cap room. Maybe the silver lining here is that by locking him up early, they're getting a team-friendlier deal before someone has time to swoop in and overpay. Fingers crossed.
