I am trying to recall a story in recent years where a perpetrator of a crime this high profile got away and was never found. Anyone recall any examples?
I had the same thought and couldn't think of anything. My only "recent" example is the DC sniper stuff in 2002. That lasted for 3 weeks in DC and 6 months in other parts of the country before they were caught.
They left a note at a crime scene though. That was extra stupid.
Photos from yesterday indicate (assuming that they are legitimately from yesterday) that he wasn't wearing body armor.

I don't think he was wearing body armor. We would know that beyond a doubt by now. And his torso would look more puffy.

I read this and the fact that Patel and Bongino are on the way as being connected. They postponed the news conference because Patel and Bongino wanted to be present when the news is broken that the assassin has been suicided/killed or apprehended.
Haven't even captured the assassin yet....

why are we assuming he knew it would be found. He left it in the woods. He may have thought there was a chance he could return for it at some point if he happened to be lucky enough to get away completely unseen and if it happened to be found, he wasn't worried about it with it likely being void of prints. If he leaves it on the roof, it's 100% going to be found. If he leaves it in the woods, at least there's a chance...

Reporters listen to police radios and the have the police stations surrounded, I assume.
And it's merely that they have identified him by name, then it would be irresponsible to get that info out there right away.

I'm starting to doubt my earlier hope that Kash and Bongino are going to Utah to announce an apprehension. I don't think anyone could keep a lid on that for hours.
