Really crappy season, but it was impossible to top season 1. What happened to the "occult history of U.S. transportation"?! And what kind of ******-baggery is that?! This season was a jumbled mess of several sub-plots but no main plot. I didn't give two craps about any of the characters

Ahhh, so he was screwing his own daughter? Lovely.

Wait. What? I don't think she was Caspere's daughter, she was the jewelry store owners daughter. Now maybe she was "like a daughter".

Jewelry store mom and jewelry store dad had 1 son (stabby mcbirdman). Then Caspere started ****ing jewelry store mom and got her pregnant with child #2 (who ended up becoming a ***** that somehow landed a job as Caspere's - her real dad- assistant with the city). She changed her name and immediately became unrecognizable (name change has same effect as wearing cowboy hat and long black dress in this world) or maybe caspere just wanted to hire a ***** to work for him.

Stabby mcbirdman didn't know his ***** sister was only his half sister, so that pushed him over the edge.

I've thought a lot about whether or not this exclusion ruined this season or saved it from being completely unwatchable.

By the way, as much as I hated on the show, the ambush of the cash deal was actually fun to watch. Even VV's Schwarzenagerey "I guess I was wrong, it was today" line. I easily suspended disbelief and enjoyed the whole scene. I was honestly worried that Burris was gonna drive up and kill them from behind. But a great scene.
I actually did like that part, even though it felt rushed. (but i guess the whole episode felt rushed)

Well except for the 45 minutes of footage of Ray and Ani taking turns watching each other sleep

I think the reason a lot of us are complaining is because we have so many options to spend our limited time with on tv shows. For me, watching a season of a show is a commitment and I want to pick shows that are high quality. I can list a large amount of shows I would have watched before this season of True Detective. I started and continued watching this season because of last season. That's probably not fair but it's probably true of a large part of the audience.

Was it horrible television? No. Was it on par with the other shows I watch (The Americans, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, etc.)? Not even close.

Television has upped its game significantly in the last decade and when a show flops like this one it is very noticeable.

Feeling like you wasted you precious free time watching the wrong TV show might be the best First World Problem I've ever heard

2 quick points about game of thrones...

You can't really lump that in with the rest because they are adapting the show from a series of books that received years and years of prep, organization, editing, popularity, etc.

Also, GoT simply wasn't very good this last season. It had its moments but also had more "dead air" throughout the season that any major critically acclaimed show in the last few years. They dragged that **** almost to a screeching halt.

That being said... It was still well acted and fun, and I didn't spend week after week *****ing non stop about the slow pace. But it wasn't great. It was just entertaining with flaws and plenty good enough to enjoy. Much like the show we are discussing here.

A mediocre season of GoT was still world's better than TD S2.

Everyone entitled to like it for whatever reason they did, but that story was crap.

All that talk about the park and what dress Jordan would wear to meet VV, and they didn't have a scene of RM meeting Jordan at the park instead of VV?

They opted for VV to see her in the dress in his death hallucination instead

I think they could have made every episode 2 hours long and not get everything in they needed to. One of the downfalls of the season IMO. Still better than most crap on TV.

I disagree with your post here, but agree with most of your complaints about the show. It wasn't a crap story though. The story was fine. The problem is NP failed to condense it to 8.5 hours, and had no checks in power on editing his story.

That being said, the story itself was awesome in theory. It just needed a full network season of 20 hours.

But I still call bs on the latest season of GoT. That was not amazing TV. It was perfectly acceptable as a "middle season" in a fantastic series, but it was not top level. I got bored more often with that than I ever did with this season of TD, even with its flaws. But again, I was able to accept its limitations and pit them aside to enjoy the show.

This TD2 season was meh at best. Terrible flow, dialogue #raspberry and could not stop laughing at VV blinking every time the pistol went Boom! Also his serious convo with ginger beauty was intended to be mega serious but again I could not stop laughing.

My guess for Season 3 (if there is one) location is Chicago. Just a WAG.

Hopefully Lieutenant Burris is the main star of S3. That dude is the truest detective I've seen on TV.

I know the problem, there wasn't enough boobs! S1 had cake and eat it too, Marty's wife, *****s, t mobile sales rep.
This had a drugged out blurry orgy with old dudes beating off. No good

Also, this thread is filled with entitlement millennial bull ****. It's a tv show! Sorry you didn't get your ribbon at the end like you deserve. I bet most of you complaining are watching this at your moms house who paid for the premium subscription. Or you're using your old college roommates Go password.
If this show sucks so bad and is filled with so many holes, stop watching and continue to live your life. Maybe take up basket weaving, or work on building your resume so you can leave your parents couch.

It did neeed more tits. And you can't have a sexually abused cock gobbling character that is into all sorts of freaky sex **** and cast it with an actress that won't get nekkid. That's just pissing off the tv gods.

Saw the finale. It was crap. This whole season was crap with a few good parts.

So much convoluted crap to just fill in a story. So much of the season seemed like it was written in a hurry and this last week episode seemed like it got written in a few minutes.

Thanks. Good thing both he and Blackwater had full tanks of gas.
IF Velcoro had filled his gas tank somewhat close to his kid's school prior to arriving there, which isn't shown (but come on, why would they?) he could have easily made it to Porterville on one tank of gas. Same with Blackwater.
Why would Ray fill the tank when he was about to meet Ani, get on a boat and never return?

Ray's Death

Im surprised no one has discussed Ray's death dream actually becoming reality...minus the conway twitty guy

also i think he retreats to the trees in a way to protect RM so she can get out of the country...

Agreed, When he called to tell RM bye, I think he knew at that point he was dead....

But they could have achieved this exact scenario in a much more believable fashion if they had him get in the car without seeing the tracker, and then oh I dunno, be a cop and figure out he was being tailed...Then he could do exactly what he did and I'd believe that all master criminals aren't stupid...

A mobster shot him in the forehead with a nailgun (hence the scar), and while all his buddies wanted to leave him to die, VV carried him out and saved his life. Hence why nails is so loyal.

Nails ended up being pretty awesome.

I'll agree with you and take it back, you are correct the story wasn't crap but the timeframe and manner in which they tried to tell the story was crap... Which IMO falls squarely on NP -- if you have 8 hours to tell a story, you need to either condense the story or drop the extraneous crap.

What's baffling is he did neither... We had extended scenes and monologues that added nothing to the story, but then major story elements were crammed in or revealed in minutes.

There was more screen time spent on VV and his wife discussing their meetup in Venezuela than there was VV reclaiming his stolen money... There was more time spent watching Rachel McAdams stick knives into a dummy than there was on CF coming up with the "whodunit".

If you want to be artsy and or a slow-burn type show that's fine, but then you need to move to a format that allows you more time to tell your story. I like S1 infinitely more than S2, but it fell victim to the same thing. Slow burn, then story wrapped up in one big rush with a ton of stuff unexplained.
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree. There were major issues and they fall at the feet of NP, who's autonomy granted to him on this project was probably giving him too much.

In the end though...the acting by some of the top stars, action scenes, and the convoluted story was still plenty enough for me to enjoy it this summer, even with its flaws.
