Video diving into some theories

I know some people have taken the approach to pay less attention to "clues" after they led no where last season but here ya go!

good synpopsis actually and doesn't delve into too much of the symbolism or rabbit holes.

Seriously, TexAgs? You censor a director's last name that starts with F-u-k? What are we, a bunch of eight-year-olds? This is a message board prominently consisting of GROWN ASS MEN, from college to senior citizens. This place really does feel like it's run by a church in the 1950s sometimes.

What do you expect from a B\CS company?

Season 2 is still better then 90% of everything else on TV, but yeah, three hours in and I could not be less invested in this story/characters. I think I was just in denial, but last night confirmed it for me.

Again, it's good, but part of the problem is that the show has become self-aware. It's now trying way too hard to BE True Detective, if that makes any sense. And in doing so, has lost a lot of the magic from season one.

I really need something to hook me next episode, the end of which will be the halfway mark. I feel like even by this time last season the plot was a lot further along. But maybe I'm just remembering it wrong.

Plus CF, whom I normally like, is barely doing a moderate job of playing a very boring character. They should have let him die when he was shot point blank. I have watched all of the eps and really couldn't even tell you what the hell is going on. I keep dosing off, which is highly unusual for a night owl.

What?!? I'd say he's doing a great job of playing the most interesting character. He's the brightest spot in this season. But I'm also not the one falling asleep each episode.

He's no Rust Cohle, but Colin Farrell has been the clear standout of the season.

Citizen-R does seem to be watching a different program, but he IS "dosing" himself with something. Perhaps it is an hallucinogen.

Yeah, I'd say CF's character is anything but boring.

Just caught up. So far it's decent, but I really can't find any characters worth rooting for at this point. We've got three totally screwed up cops searching for the killer of a corrupt, perverted city official or whatever who kinda stole a lot of money from an equally unlikable VV. If any of the lead characters took a bullet to the head right now, I don't think I'd care. And that's kinda weird for a series that's almost halfway in.

One semi-interesting sub plot though is the CF kid deal. Kinda obvious that he and the ex didn't make a fat red-headed kid together. I'm assuming that the real dad is the guy who raped the ex... the guy that VV had offed.

I didn't care for CF character first episode. He's grown on me the last two.

I think the reason everybody is connecting with CF is because he's the only one we really know much about. We've seen his family, we know his kid is likely not his, and we see the true struggles he's having.

We got a small snippet of Rachel McAdam's character, but nothing to really connect you to her, and she's a hard ass to boot which makes it difficult to care for her right now.

Biker cop - we know he probably had a gay lover at one point that he's trying to forget, but otherwise, he's just there.

Shoot, I care more for VV character than them right now.

He's a POS. He cheap-shotted that kid's dad with brass knuckles and then beat him half-to-death over a pair of tennis shoes. I'm not going to be able to like him.

I wasn't bothered by that that much. Bullies deserve to see their dads beaten bloody in front of them.

If another kid ruined something of my son's that cost $150+, I'd go over talk to his parents as well. CF just skipped the conversation and went straight to the whooping

I get what you are saying, but it's the Jaime Lannister effect for me. I know I should hate him, but I still like him anyways.

Then CF is the one that deserved the azz whooping.

You'll eventually like him. The character is conflicted. What we know now is that he was once a good man (per his ex) but has a temper when it comes to vengeance. He murdered a man (for good reason) and lost control over who he was. These last two episodes have hinted at him trying to do the right thing, but we clearly see he struggles mightily at this point.

Killing a man and having your wife raped will do a number on your mind. Hell, I think he is so adamant about Being that fat ginger's dad partly because of the guilt he harbors for murdering the rapist. Just a personal thought on that, but he is not strong enough to actually treat him like a son because he can't let go of the fact thought that the kid is a product of rape. What is clear is that this guy will continue to struggle with right/wrong. I think before its all said and done he gets his mind closer to right and shows flashes of who he was before he became a "textbook burn out." I also believe knowing the fat ginger kid is not his son will make their father/son relationship better. We shall see.

Good perspective. I suppose a bonified "come to Jesus" moment could sway me... But it'll take a significant sacrifice on his part. Something more than pulling RM out of the path of a semi.

Aspen is a POS, who bullies and steals from weaker kids. Where might he have learned those behaviors?

His father got what he deserved, and (just maybe) little Aspen learned a lesson also.

If that's the case this thing is a sinking ship. VV is the only one showing any range. The rest of it feels like weak writing holding back actors.

I'll give it a few more eps and try watching it earlier but, come on. They need to get it moving. It's not even in the same zip as season 1. They may need to rename it True Boring Detective.

After binge watching season one this week, I think it's pretty easy to diagnose season two's biggest problem: too many main characters. I think they could've gotten away with three, but four just too cumbersome. Should've dropped the motorcycle cop from the story.

Ok, I think something is up with the red head #2 man. VV was pissed that he wasn't around after the Russian left the casino and then he shows up with a "dog ate my homework" excuse when confronted on his whereabouts. Just seemed like he was up to something. Maybe he is behind all this and has VV money and is trying to bring him down first and then fill the void when VV is elimated? Classic desire for power, maybe?

Sidenote:

Awesome song intro in last episode with Conway Twitty "The Rose" and how it blended with the radio at the scene. Like a poster said before, it might be a little bit of foreshadowing in the transformation of CF's character from bad to good.

Last verse before CF wakes up at the crime scene...

"Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snow, lies the seed that with the suns love in the spring becomes The Rose"

-----

I'm enjoying this season, I don't think any season be it this season or any other future season would ever reach the story level and character heights of season 1. I'm just enjoying this season for what it is and not trying to compare it to season 1.

Episode 4 tonight!

Just finished season 1. Will someone bump the season 1 thread? Search does't pull up anything but season 2. Would like to read it.

I also feel this is the root cause of most everyone's gripes. It's hard to root for, or against, any of them with such little back story and character development through 3 episodes so far. And it is hard to see that changing over 5 more.
