Two or three of the TA gals should meat him when he's released with a tub of crisco and some clamps. Throw him a little wrastlin party to cheer him up.

It doesn't look like any ONE person lost that much, it's a trust fund.
But interesting it says no fort bend county connections.

When you're a lawyer, isn't the money a client initially pays you to retain them put into a trust account? So this could be embezzling money from that trust account for personal use?

When Damon was suspended from the bar for the marijuana delivery scheme, I noticed some other lawyers were suspended for taking money from their legal trust accounts. Wondering if this is the same type of deal, or if this is just garden-variety embezzling.

Most trusts are inherited. That is the estate of a deceased is put into trust for the heirs to draw from. Often lawyers are either designated as the executor of the trust or are hired by the executor to manage the trust. In either case they have full financial control.

In other words, tempting as a turd to a fly if you have a drug habit to feed and have exhausted your friends good nature in lending you money.

There is more than one type of trust account.

From notice on Damon's suspension for marijuana possession

Quote:

On July 10, 2014, Jose Angel Becerra [#24026790], 40, of Laredo, accepted a two-year fully probated suspension. The District 12 Grievance Committee found that Becerra neglected client matters, failed to communicate with clients, failed to hold client funds in a trust account separate from his own property, failed to provide an accounting of client funds, and, upon termination, failed to take steps to the extent reasonably practicable to protect his clients' interests.

I'm simply wondering if Damon is accused of doing the same thing, basically taking money paid to him for business and using it to buy drugs. Plenty of people have mentioned paying him for services not rendered, this could be one of those situations. Or he could be ripping off a trust account set up for a widow, who knows?

If you are the executor you can transfer the assets to any other financial instrument. You can even commingle assets (if you track the value and can untangle it later). That is definitely not recommended. My guess is jorts said he commingled assets to try and cover his duplicity in outright stealing the money.
