As a farmer I can say fuel prices suck. I thankfully booked 75% of my needs for fall three weeks ago at 4.80/gal for red diesel. Now the local suppliers are just over 6 for farm fuel and saying the terminals won't let them contract so now we can't contract more to lock a price in. However, corn prices are up around $1 a bushel more than last year and soybeans are $3/bushel more which way more than offsets the increase in fuel but still painful when you get the fuel bill. We also run a couple semis over the road and that's costing over $600 a day per truck to put fuel in and although fuel surcharges are going up, it's still tempting to just park the trucks right now. Fertilizer for fall was actually very similar priced to last fall for p and k. Nitrogen was a little higher and now moving up still. These farmers saying fuel is what's going to break them are either just ticked off or have other underlying issues. If the guy in that video is a beef producer, he has probably been doing well on that the last few years. The media never fully tells the story when it comes to ag.

Fortunate that our vehicle gets close to 40 mpg but it still ain't fun.

Most of the run up in price is from a lower than expected crop in the Midwest from to much rain along with El Niño causing Europe's and South America to be abnormally dry. I would say these prices finally have row crop farmers back to break even or now profitable. The last few years have been break even or less. Even though the media and companies may use grain prices going up as an excuse for increased food prices, it would be a minuscule amount compared to increased transportation costs.

The refinery wasn't damaged other than a pump that got flooded. It was knocked offline due to a power outage resulting from severe weather, which of course tripped the safety systems.

It takes time to restart a refinery, but they're working on it.

So.... if we are drilling for all this crude in the US and have all this Venezuela oil....why is he US still so dependent on Middle East oil? Do we not have enough refineries to make all this crude oil usable? Explain to me like I'm five...

Seeing another rate hike expected in October now too.

Should be fined for being down during basically a national emergency regarding diesel. Of course our wonderful group of leaders over the last few decades have been shutting down capacity, so really just a matter of time. Get those battery powered tractors out there and harvest that corn. Deer season is coming on.

Considering almost every major football stadium will be full this weekend, seems only football hating liberals are complaining of fuel prices. Sure more will feel the increase in the spring when growing season starts back up and our landscapers will need to increase prices due to fuel.

Regular gas jumped 30 in Kansas City yesterday to $4.29 a gallon. Diesel holding steady at $5.99.

They are doing a bang up job of getting people riled up. That's for sure.

Always have been. The lines and shortages in the 1970s were front page news and on tv non stop. This is absolutely not a new media turn.

No one said that.

The media loves to report on high gas prices when a Republican is in office, and ignore it when a Democrat is.

I can remember they were blaming the prices in 2008 all on Bush, then switched to blaming him for the subprime mortgage crash, which was actually 100% on the Democrats and something Bush had tried to fix but they blocked him from doing so.

October delivery blendstock solidly over $3.50 now, in the near future will be wishing for $4 gas.

Similar to in the past reporting on homeless during Republic admins. It doesn't matter now, it's so out of control and in Dem cities that they won't report. There is bias. But gas prices are high.
