Also, that Udogie no call in the box on Garnacho is one of the hardest things to try to explain to a person who is trying to get into top level soccer. That is 100% a foul anywhere else on the pitch other than the penalty area and yet will never, ever be called in the box. Not because it's a rule. It's just that we have all universally agreed that certain fouls aren't fouls in the box for some reason and we can't even actually explain what types of fouls aren't fouls in the box...we just all kind of know it after watching enough.
i get the disappointment at times if a foul anywhere else on the pitch is not called a foul in the box, but a ref doesn't want to award free goals by calling a petty foul when the attacker goes down way too easily, wide in the box, back to goal, with no chance of scoring. I don't mind the global understanding that it should either be a foul going to goal or be more a egregious foul in the 18 yd box to award a penalty. VAR looked at that one on garnacho. Reverse the sides and you'd hate for a pen to be awarded to an opponent for that. Garnacho knew what he was doing. Nice try to earn a whistle in the box. Nice discipline by the ref to play on and let var take a quick look for an obvious mistake by the ref.Dre_00 said:
