So here's the problem as I see it: last year we cobbled together a great defense that hid a poor offense. If you go back through the results from last year, there were a lot of 1-0 wins. So we got rid of de Gea, everyone on defense (almost) has been hurt (all four starting defenders plus Casemiro), and the thing Onana is supposed to be good at, passing from goal, has been negated because you don't really want the defenders we have available right now to be on the ball long, if at all.
But what I can't explain is the front six. Bruno was creating chances last year, but he's not much this year. Mason Mount was clearly supposed to help create chances, but he's awful (and I know he was bad last year, but I can remember thinking he was good, but he has me questioning my memory). Casemiro was a legitimate miracle worker last year; he's been bad. Hojlund is athletic but raw, and we are asking more from him than you can expect from a 20 year old, but any striker would struggle with our lack of chance creation. I have no idea how he worked at Ajax, but our right winger can't use his right foot at all. And last year Rashford was creating his own goals but he stinks right now. Our third expensive winger is training by himself and out of the first team after essentially fighting with the manager on Twitter. And then we have a bunch of kids that we are trying to use to paper over the cracks. Oh and we have a loanee and a free transfer in the midfield that should probably be squad players but we are having to use them as starters.
Other than that, it's going reall well.
