After the first 2 episodes, I truly did feel this was a big improvement. Surprised the general tone is so negative.
Here are the things I enjoyed:
Less good:
Overall, I had a great time with #3 and have hope again.
Here are the things I enjoyed:
- Loved Leia's question on how it feels to use the Force. So intriguing. Thought Obi-Wan's answer was a nice touch.
- Sister #3 performance was much improved. Helped that she had far less dialog, but I thought she did well with what she was given.
- Ben saying how much Leia reminds him of Padme, without technically saying it.
- Vader's arrival in the village, and Obi-Wan's reaction, played like a horror or monster movie. Reminded me of Jamie Lee hiding in the closet, looking through the shutters as Michael makes his way inevitably to her. Even as he pursues Ben in the open, like a true stalker, he slowly and menacingly walks you down. Never running.
- Agree that Vader's voice was spot on. None of his lines felt immediately like ones which would vault into the pantheon, but a few have potential. "I am what you made me."
- Enjoyed seeing Vader's Mustafar home and watching him in action in an open environment. He's always on a ship, in a base, or in something else artificial. Super fun to see him roaming in open air.
- I liked the night-time visuals with only the blades and Vader's lights illuminating the action. Reminded me of something they tried in AotC with Anakin vs Dooku, which was cool then but all too brief.
- The visuals of Vader through the flames… excellent.
Less good:
- Totally agree on the music. More classic Williams. This shouldn't be hard.
- Agree with the assumption Darth let him go at the end. As ANH Leia will say, "It's the only explanation." They needed to make that more explicit, and maybe they will as things progress. Otherwise, it's ridiculous to believe a few flames, identical to the fire he had just started himself, would concern Lord Vader. Clearly, he intends to torture Obi-Wan. Must assume he's decided it's no fun if it's "All too easy." Better to let him retreat now and start over when your old foe resembles something closer to the man you've dreamt of destroying. Of course, hell of a lot of irony there given 2 minutes earlier he was scolding, "You should have killed me when you had the chance."
- The logistics of every chase in the series leave a lot to be desired, and I'm not only speaking of the now infamous Leia ones.
Overall, I had a great time with #3 and have hope again.
