Because Star Wars can't help but put as many "strong" women into the universe and make up for the damn 70s/80s obsession with white dude heroes?
Eh, did you miss Princess Leia in a 70s flick with a couple of white dude heroes? I mean, she was literally the first strong female character in action/scifi/fantasy movies.

Generally speaking, Star Wars has become a melting pot of too many writers & directors with ideas and views that don't mesh. It's become a real mess and they've lost a lot of old fans like me that grew up with 3 simple but glorious movies.

I'm not completely done with Star Wars... in fact I'm re-playing Fallen Order right now, such a cool game... but I'm cancelling Disney + and have no desire to watch any more SW tv shows. IMO they need to re-group, take a few years and put together a team that can execute a new/original movie trilogy worthy of the name.

Yeah, that gal. The same gal who sassed Darth Vader in the opening sequence, who showed those white dude heroes how to actually get something done in the shoot-out in the detention center, who *****ed about a walking carpet being in her way, and how mocked the very starship the white dude heroes came to rescue her in. Oh, and the same gal in a bikini who literally choked the life out of that big slug with the chains he put on her. Yeah, she was most definitely a strong gal.

I agree with you here. She also got into both situations (damsel in distress, slave outfit) on her own volition in fighting the empire and then rescuing Han.

I actually don't think this is really true. The idea behind each show has been fine, it's just the actual execution. The MCU has, in part, thrived the way it has because of how different the movies were. There's a little something for everyone there.

But, more than anything, it's thrived because the movies were mostly good, and the characters were strong.

This show wasn't bad because Obi Wan rescuing princess Leia is a bad idea. It was bad because the dialogue sucked, the motivations of the antagonists were EXTREMELY unclear, and most of the characters were forgettable.

Also, that said, if Return of the Jedi came out today, people would absolutely hate it.

All of those things can be true at once.

Here's what I know... at the age of around 5 or 6 I was very much aware that I was a heterosexual male thanks to Princess Leia and Linda Carter's Wonder Woman. I was young but I wasn't blind!!!

She can have a word, then. I don't actually recall much of that movie, other than Leslie Nielsen before he was funny, and some red light monster, and a goofy robot. I'll have to re-watch that one.

Beattie wrote the movie script that the eventual six-part series drew from, btw.

I'm weird, but I interpreted the scene with Obi-Wan and Vader as Anekin almost giving Obi-Wan permission to kill him there. I honestly think he wanted to be struck down there.

Unless you dont want to miss out on classics such as I, Frankenstein.

I agree. Vader wanted to keep fighting, either to land a killing blow or to have his miserable pain end. Obi-Wan walking away and leaving him broken and beaten is the worst for him. Imagine how tough it would be just getting back on board his Star Destroyer without someone seeing or knowing what had happened. He'd have to like send text-only messages to the commander saying - clear the hangar, clear a path to my quarters, turn off the security cameras, I'll kill anyone who disobeys - probably has droids to repair / replace his armor, but then you've got to go tell Palpatine what happened; Palpatine who already saved your "Chosen One" ass once before when you were supposedly the most powerful Jedi off all time and Obi-Wan took off 75% of your limbs with one swing.

Yeah, nothing about this guy's history tells me that he'd produce a good trilogy. This sounds like someone who wrote a bad story and is trying to blame something else. I mean, the dude admits that he hadn't ever written anything for parts two and three of the trilogy. But his delivery would've totally worked, I'm sure.

I listed all that a while back. I can't remember the specifics, but on IMDB he's co-credited with four episodes, including the first and last episodes. So you can tell what of the story is his and what was added to fill in the blanks/stretch it out to six episodes. Overall, though, the basic story seems to be all him. No idea when it comes to dialogue/specifics, though.

That was not the original version of that scene, so it doesn't count. /TexAgs George Lucas special edition and prequel haters.

Either way, the reactions from those RLM guys still cracks me up so much.

Hm, didn't realize that wasn't the original scene. Because I was born in the mid 80's and didn't get into Star Wars until around the same time the special editions came out I can't remember what was original and what was added in half the time.

But either way, for all the canon issues, this is one thing that's never really bothered me that much. In my head canon not very many people know his name is Skywalker until he joins the rebellion and starts using it more. That's why he went under the radar.

There's a comic where Fett brings Vader the name of the pilot shortly after the DS blows up. Vader realizes the connection and accidentally cracks the trapisteel viewport of his own Star Destroyer in rage/anger.
