In for that! Watched all of clone wars in release order, but too much to figure out where to go next. This helps!

Seems like the Star Wars items on Disney + have had a big surprise element to them. What do you think happens here given the reality that we already know Vader will make an appearance?

Obi and Vader really are brothers.

The general temperature I've seen on reddit from people who've read leaks is not super enthusiastic, so I'm trying really hard to temper expectations. But man, it's tough not to be excited.

I've spent the last couple weekends immersed in Star Wars prequels, Clone Wars, the prequel making-of documentaries (which are still some of the best DVD extras of all time), and just in general "Star Wars mode", so I am just primed and ready to go.

I've been waiting years for this, so it's difficult to not put high expectations on this show, especially after that thread we had throwing out story ideas. So many awesome possibilities.

But expectations are often unrealistically high and can be impossible to meet, so I'm somewhat bracing myself for that.

Still, just 4 days to go and I can't wait.

the sequel trilogy confirmed for me that what I enjoy about Star Wars and what others enjoy is often not the same thing.

Just don't give a crap about others' opinions. I mean, so what if some random reviewer or critic doesn't like it?

Remember that the vast majority of this board thinks the entire prequel trilogy is worst than something like Alien Versus Ninja. They'll come at you with all kinds of technical mumbo-jumbo as to why it sucks, but the bottom line is how do you react to what you're seeing?

I fully expect to enjoy the hell out of the Obi Wan series.

On a similar note, I think we have found that when 'leaks' come out and people expect to see certain things happen, it causes unneeded disappointment when the leaks turn out to be wrong.

I've always had a sort of cautious optimism for this show, as parts of what I have seen I am not sure about. Either way, as it gets closer to that date it will be hard to not get overhyped lol.

a lot of us appreciate the prequel trilogy a lot more now that the sequel trilogy came out. That and the cartoons.

My only hesitation so far is the cinematography. Something about it - at least in the two admittedly short trailers - just looks flat and dull and a little too "small"/TV-ish. It doesn't *feel* cinematic, like a big, sweeping, desert-set, planet-hoping story should. I don't know, I just thought this was going to look more epic and grand and not saturated, digital, and somewhat hand-held.

That, and from a million miles away I can already see the Reva character turning "good" in the end, or at least finally helping Obi-Wan out in some way.

As for everything else - the story/concept itself - I'm all in, and obviously can't wait to see where it all goes. They've been developing this thing for so long, and seem to have put in the work on the script stage, that I'm not too worried about the narrative, characterization, etc.

I wonder if that's because almost all of the trailer is from early on not to give anything away or if the show is actually smaller in scale.

Had this thought today not sure if it's been shared….

I'm not going to be surprised nor dissatisfied/disappointed if the very first episode is sort of a dud. I'm guessing they realized the first episode is really more of a "setting up the chess pieces" and not having much story……but with that guessing it'll end with just enough to where we'll be wanting to watch episode 2…..which is pretty much all I'm guessing we'll be talking about after Friday night.

Would definitely explain the decision to release the first two episodes simultaneously.

This is, essentially, a 4ish hour movie. That starts with Obi Wan in hiding and filled with a lot of doubt and feelings of failure.

You can't just have him start off lightsaber-a-blazin' like he's ready to take out the next General Grievous. There need to be some substantial developments to get Obi Wan out and about.
TCTTS

That probably has something to do with it for sure. It definitely seems like there's A LOT they're not showing us, so I'm certainly holding out hope in that regard.

That said, in the stuff we *have* seen so far, even if 90% of it's from the first couple episodes, the cinematography itself simply doesn't look very cinematic. It's just a bunch of flat, dull, saturated imagery that has a slight digital/hand-held feel. There's no depth or artistry to it at all. That, and I can really sense the sets and The Volume and all that here even more than I could in Book of Boba Fett.

But again, we've only been given two relatively short trailers, all things considered, and it might all feel completely different in context, in-show. Will definitely reserve judgment until at least after these first two episodes.

This is why I said like 12 pages ago that, instead of opening with Obi Wan like everyone expects, I'd have almost the whole first episode dedicated to the bad guys of this series and then at the end of the episode they find some kind of clue to his whereabouts which sets him up for the second episode.

I'd get who the bad guys are, what they're up to, where they are, etc. that your general audience is going to know out of the way at the beginning.

Maybe he is setting off as a hermit talking to Yoda and mumbling to himself.

Maybe he has cut himself off from the force and then some force sensitive kid finds him and he chunks the lightsaber the kid shows him behind him.

Maybe the kid has to convince him to come out and help.

And maybe there are blue milk cows he drinks from and stupid little furry animals running around.

Wait a minute, have I heard this before???

Substantial clues to his whereabouts are tricky. If he's at real risk now, he can't very well go back and hide in the same place for a decade or so, which we know he does. It's not like the empire would forget that information or stop looking - especially after what presumably happens in this series.

I think he gets pulled in because something else is in jeopardy away from Tatooine.

Yeah, I'm kind of thinking that the "clue" they get is the same reason that Obi Wan leaves. It'll be a person somewhere else.

I'm not necessarily worried about it yet, but I'm also hoping for that epic, sweeping look.

Somewhat counter-intuitive, but I feel like they really need to start embracing the standard 16:9 aspect ratio (to where the image will fill our screens), rather than doing a wide cinematic format. I get that it's "more image" in that wider format, but the fact is it just makes for a smaller image when watching at home.

I know for me, I have a much easier time getting immersed in a TV show when it's a nice full image on my screen.

I mentioned this a while back, but I kind of expect the first episode to be 100% focused on Obi-Wan, set in Tatooine, and we never cut away to the rest of the galaxy.

Truth be told, this is exactly what I'm hoping for.

Oh, knowing this board, it won't be the only thing. Something about some fighter jocks going pew pew pew at each other. Might have heard something about that?

And again, my #1 thing I want to see is Obi-Wan communing with Qui-Gon, even if just through voices.

That's gonna hit hard for me.

I know this is what the leaks are all about, so please avoid confirming, but calling my shot -- Leia.

And this would be how Leia and Bail factor in.

We know by the time of ANH Leia is at least well aware of Obi-Wan, and could've actually met him. It wouldn't directly contradict the hologram message just because she mentions he served her father.

This, 100%. I'm so sick of the Star Wars/Marvel shows insisting on a 2.35 aspect ratio for all their TV stuff. These series will never be watched in a theater, so why even go that route? If it's to maintain some kind of presentation/framing consistency with the movies, who cares? Especially when Disney+ has started embracing the 16:9 "enhanced for IMAX" presentations for a lot of their MCU movies now.

There was a sequence in an early season two episode of The Mandalorian where the aspect ratio expanded to 16:9, and it was glorious and such a more immersive experience. Just do that... for all of it.

What if...............this happens.

And............Qui-Gon doubles down on Anakin being the chosen one. And this begins to guide Kenobi's purpose beyond simply looking out for the child. That the only way to defeat the Sith and bring balance to the Force is through Luke. The son that will bring the father back to the light.
