No doubt. I'm not saying it's not true. Certain people have absolutely crossed the line and accused others here of racism, for not like something "black" in entertainment (be it a movie, actor, etc), when it's obvious the accused isn't being racists.

That said, there are those of us who have seen multiple racists comments and innuendos posted at F16, like, say, calling Michelle Obama a monkey (something I've seen more than once), so when someone who frequents F16 posts here, and uses all the go-to anti-lib/anti-woke/anti-BLM language/etc language, and it's someone who's also ragging hard on a black actor or whatever, it's *sometimes* hard not to make assumptions. Personally, I do my best to never go there. And by no means am I saying libs, woke-ness, or the more militant aspects of BLM shouldn't be ragged on.

I'm just saying, in this day and age, when you throw a bunch of super-hard-right folks together with some entertainment-loving people who might have, like, half a pinky toe dipped in the liberal pool, the accusations are going to fly on both sides.

Case in point, the amount of times I've been called a marxist, pedophile, or evil by certain F16ers, for simply not liking Donald Trump as a human being, even though I'm almost assuredly voting Republican next election, is just as ridiculous. It goes both ways.
okay dude, let's just do this. Here's my high level background. Conservative white male that has been married to a woman of color for well over 22 years, have two amazing sons with her, and she is my moon and stars.

Now go:

Calling Michelle Obama a monkey is weapons grade terrible. Understand your point on "assumptions" but F16 has a really solid base of great people that don't tolerate this **** and a smaller base of "drive by's" that stir redneck crap like this. The problem is to know who are real, who are bots, and who are trolls. I can tell you as the father of two teenage sons, the interwebs is their playground and stirring **** for laughs (immature I know) is a thing.

Fair enough on your point of F16'ers comingling with the more lib leaning entertainment board. I get it. I've tried to avoid it myself. I have failed sometimes. But I will invoke the greatness of Michael Jordan here. Republicans buy my shoes too. LOL. Clash is inevitable. I am just saying we need to halt the irrational assumptions and labeling.

Trump. Good lord. My wife is a very conservative Latina who refused to vote at all in 2016. I held my nose and voted Trump but only to vote against Hillary. He is not a good person. I had no idea how this jackass would actually lead. I waited in line for three hours to vote for Cruz in the primary because I was terrified he would actually get the nomination. And I am not a huge Cruz supporter. I was absolutely shocked Trump was leading. My dad is a Reagan era die hard Republican and absolutely hates Trump but also voted twice for him as a vote against the lunacy of the democrat party. I guess my point is that so many of us simply did not like Trump but liked his policies. His policies are good for the country. But there is no question he is a complete inner focused ass hole with absolutely no sense of self awareness. None.

The die had Trump supporters were latched on to a particular nativist doctrine that struck a cord with them. The rest of us just really liked the the pro economy / America first / less govt intrusion in business vibe. It's really not that hard to understand but we've made it so bad that people burn down cities over it.

I cannot believe that the two big action sequences of the first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi have revolved around chasing down a waddling, 10-year-old girl. What on earth were they thinking when outlining this thing???

On one hand, I appreciate the Obi-Wan/Leia relationship they're building here. Considering her message to him in A New Hope, it makes total sense that she would have at least met him/interacted with him, rather than him having been a hermit on Tatooine the entire time. But man, to make her the center of these action sequences is just so baffling.

That said, overall, episode two was at least better. It looked more like an actual movie, the story moved faster, etc. Even if it still doesn't feel as reverential as it should, and despite the hilarious logic of hunted Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi dressing in disguise as, *checks notes*… Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi.

But a pretty decent ep overall.

Episode 3

OH DAMN! OH DAMN! OH DAMN!

Loved hearing James Earl Jones voice again. It's soo perfect.
Loved seeing how angry Vader is (still is) towards Kenobi.
He was pretty damn ruthless to the villagers too.

I don't want to ruin everyone's fun, because after that I know I'm going to be in the vast minority, so I'll just say this and then peace out…

But for me, that could not have looked and felt more like sh*tty TV if it tried. Whatever the opposite of a visionary is, that's Deborah Chow.

I'm just in complete disbelief at how small, unmemorable, and like an episode of a CW superhero show the first face off between OBI-WAN KENOBI and DARTH VADER looked and felt. The shaky, handheld quality… the lack of any choreography, artistry, or craft… just, ugh.

Honestly, right now this whole thing is almost more of a letdown than even the prequels. I just don't get how the filmmaking for something like this can be so bad, if not, at best, completely uninspired.

I don't know, maybe this kind of stuff just isn't for me anymore, or maybe it's that Top Gun: Maverick did all of this SO MUCH better this past weekend, because I felt nothing but disappointment the entire time tonight. Not in the story, necessarily, but in the sense that really for the first time, this whole SW/MCU Disney+ endeavor is starting to feel consistently cheap and consistently milked, for the lowest common denominator, in cynical, assembly line fashion.

And it's just kind of depressing to watch.

Oh, and one other thing that's *really* bothering me and then I'll shut up, but…

WHY IS THERE NO STAR WARS MUSIC IN THE STAR WARS SHOW???

It makes total sense for Mando and Boba to have their own themes, and not really incorporate any of the classic stuff, but this is Obi-Wan Kenobi. It's Leia. It's VADER.

So why are we not hearing any of the themes we know and love and associate with these characters and the franchise built around them?

Lucasfilm has access to instant, feel-good, nostalgia inducers, and they're choosing instead to not use any of it?

Why???

As was said earlier in the thread, STAR WARS has always been a story of redemption. The way this series is painting Obi Wan as a broken down shadow of his former self (especially in his confrontation with Vader), leads me to think that Kenobi is the one who will be redeemed.

But for me, they may be taking his downward spiral a bit too far. To the detriment of the series.

But Gina Carano comes out as conservative and she's ousted without so much as a peep from Star Wars Twitter.

Are you seriously comparing a tweet telling people to not be racist after a black actress was sent racist messages to someone being let go after making inflammatory remarks on their personal twitter? Like what kind of mental gymnastics are going on that you can even begin to equate the two?

This board has discussed the Carano thing ad nauseum, and there are valid points to be made there on how Disney handled it, but this isn't even the same ****ing ballpark.

You're clearly passionate about this, but can you really not see how Disney of late has a history of altering their messaging or programming to fit the flavor of the day?

I never insinuated that racism was tolerable, I merely pointed out that Disney went out on a limb to comment on a black actress, who is under heavy criticism, the degree to which, some is unnecessary.

At the end of the day, the 'mental gymnastics' belongs to the folks that have to justify the hypocrisies perpetuated by the company: an obvious example of which is the difference in movie posters shown just below the message I'm replying to. Disney fights to protect a black actress, but will gladly hide black actors from their Chinese market so as not to hurt sales.

Enjoyed the episode. But I do have two major complaints:

1. The lack of Star Wars music is really starting to bug me. I'm a big music guy as y'all know, so I thought they were just holding it back until the right moment, but we're now halfway through the series, one Vader/Kenobi showdown in, and we still have heard ZERO of the classic Star Wars cues we all know and love. For any other Star Wars show, that's not a huge deal, but when we're dealing with characters like Obi-Wan, Vader, and Leia, why are they refusing to use John Williams' music?

2. Sorry but a little fire is not enough to have stopped Vader from taking Kenobi at the end there. I guess maybe they're writing him to be afraid of fire now like Freddy? Not sure, but he easily would've ended him right there if he wanted to. However, it's entirely possible he is letting him go purposefully, of course, to toy with him a bit.

Mostly enjoyed the showdown, but it's tough to see Obi-Wan like this. Makes sense story-wise, but man I'm ready to see him return to somewhat of his former self. Hopefully this happens over the course of the final 3 episodes before their final showdown. And seriously, if we never hear ANY John Williams music (besides the new Obi-Wan theme), that's gonna be such a freaking wasted opportunity.

Yeah. I understand having new music for something like BoBF or Mando, but damn it these are the original characters, Empire, Jedi etc. Play the effing themes that go with them. No reason not to.

I just don't understand not using a simple version of the Imperial March there as Vader is walking through the town murdering people. Or a hint of Leia's Theme when she asks about the Force. Or any hint of the Battle of the Heroes when Vader let loose on Obi-Wan.

Again, they could be holding them back, but even if they are, that's already three episodes wasted where there was ample opportunity to use them.

The Force Theme not being used when he saved Leia from falling....like come on. They teed you up!

Except your post mentioned none of that. It instead made a simple false equivalency, and you try to make up for it with a straw man argument about how Disney markets to different regions. The latter is definitely ****ty, but that's how global corporations are run, and if they want to make money in China, it's probably not going to change (although they are catching bans in some countries for not editing out LGBT stuff now).

It baffles me that some of you get so bent out of shape by them tweeting to tell people to not be racist after an actress on the show was sent racial slurs because of her performance. Pretty cut and dry, and really should not be something this divisive.

I usually don't have any opinions, or really even awareness, of music when I'm watching shows...but the lack of Vader's theme when they panned up to his face on the street is unacceptable. 6 notes, that's all you need.

To Spilner's point about Vader and the fire...I interpreted that scene as Vader having a moment of "conflict," as Luke calls it in Jedi, while Obi-Wan is being rescued. Yes, he totally could have made that fire go away with the Force and gone after. He chose not to, and I don't think it's because he's toying. Similar feel to when the Falcon makes the jump to light speed at the end of Empire and Vader doesn't kill any officers, but just walks away.

The fight is a bit of a let down, but I think it was to show that Obi-Wan isn't really committed to this yet. He barely could block Vader, he doesn't use the Force at all, he's just so weak. Vader wasn't going HAM either, b/c he wants Obi-Wan to suffer. In their current states, Vader could have probably killed him in 2 moves.

Vader torturing him with fire was on target, imo.

I'm not a huge fan of the shaky cam, but I didn't mind the lack of choreography. They've been setting up how rusty Obi-Wan's abilities are after ten years of not using them (not to mention ten years of aging), so I certainly wouldn't expect him to be in the same top shape he was when facing Anakin in RotS. And Vader has always been fairly clunky at fighting due to the suit.

Still enjoying it, but it kind of reminds me of the first season of the Mandalorian where there are nitpicks that just feel like odd choices or like lack of attention to detail (music as mentioned is one of them).

Agree with a lot of what's being said here, show has been a let down, for the most part. I will say that it's not on Ewan McGregor, I feel like he's the one bright spot in an otherwise dull show. He's doing a great job conveying an aging fighter that is scared and out of practice, it's basically everything else that's bad. It would be completely unwatchable without him.

Rather than having Vader and The Inquisitors both they should have focused on The Inquisitors, but they've been doing them poorly and they could be a great foil to Obi-Wan on their own, do one villain well, not several of them poorly. It just feels like they're trying to do too much, three episodes in and I don't feel invested at all.

Contrasting this with The Mandalorian and they're in completely different leagues, this show and The Book of Boba Fett have really reinforced how well made The Mandalorian is, give me more of that show.

I think the music and other Star Wars stuff is coming. This isn't Star Wars yet. This is an old, depressed man trying to save a young, smart ass brat from bad guys.

Ben Kenobi will spend the next couple episodes coming to terms with the reality that his apprentice, who he thought dead, is alive and destroying the galaxy.

When all is almost lost, he will fully channel the force, finally contact force ghost Qui-Gon, and become Super Saiyan 2 Obi-Wan Kenobi. That's when the beat drops on some Duel of the Fates/Battle of the Heroes.

Or we're going to get about 6 more awkward chase scenes, more Darth Tantrum, and an underdeveloped 10 year old that needs a good back handing.

We'll see.

I'm pretty confident I hear the opening notes to the Dual of Fates when they faced off at the end, before he set him on fire.
I wonder if there is some rights issue to the music somehow...or they know he probably wont be able to write more music in the future and want to "establish" new music and themes... I dunno man
