And I still want Idris Elba. Why is he not an option anymore?

Because he's already Black Superman.

As long as the actor isn't like cam or Mitchell from modern family I dont see why people would care about sexual orientation

Again, when I say "discourse," I'm referring mainly to all the tweets and news bites and articles. It would be endless "The first gay actor to play Bond!" headlines that would inevitably turn into opinion pieces about how a gay actor is being forced to play a misogynist hetero spy, wondering why Bond himself can't be gay, yada yada yada. It would be more about the actor's sexuality than it would be about the character himself. That said, Madden could indeed be great, and I wouldn't be at all against it.

But he's right. It is absolutely something that modern media would somehow manage to spin up and turn into a ****storm just for headlines. Hell, I had no idea Madden was gay and I'm not sure he's ever come out and said he is.

I do think he'd be a decent choice for the next Bond. If they had a film ready to get rolling, I think they should try and squeeze in a 2 film set with Elba, but he is 49. Daniel Kaluuya would be another decent young actor. I also think even though he's Super-Man, that you need to consider Henry Cavill.

I honestly don't know who the folks you mentioned are but I definitely thought of Cahill, but he seems like too much of a meathead and not cool enough. I think Idris Elba would crush it. He definitely does not look 49.

Wasn't Daniel Craig relatively unknown when he got cast? I mean I recognized him in stuff after the fact, but I had no idea who he was when the first Craig bond came out.

Same for me. I had no idea who Craig was when Casino Royale came out

Cavill can pull off spy in my opinion. I loved The Man from U.N.C.L.E. film even though it didn't do well in theatres. I do think both him and Idris Elba might be too well known for the role.

Richard Madden is from Game of Thrones (played Robb Stark for 3 seasons).

Daniel Kaluuya was in Black Panther and Get Out.

I believe Craig had been in Spielberg's Munich movie the year prior to Casino Royale, but that's all I knew him from.

I'd love to see Henry Cavill in the 007 role. I really enjoyed The Man From UNCLE as well, and combined with his role in one of the Mission Impossible movies (forget the title), I think he could be Bond quite easily. I also like the ideo of Elba as Bond, but with his age how long would he be good for that role? Perhaps they could take the opposite approach to the Craig series, which depicted Bond "becoming Bond" so to speak, and have Bond approaching the end of his career? (Of course, Craig's series has done that as well, so maybe not so interesting).

Wait, what? Since when is he gay?

I really liked the man from uncle as well, I thought they had it lined up to make a second but I guess it bombed? Cahill just doesn't seem mysterious enough, for the lack of a better word.

Didn't know Richard Madden was gay and don't care. I did see him on a speculative list from Vogue as a candidate. He definitely has the looks for it. Dude is stupid handsome. #nohomo

I still freaking love Idris Elba as Bond, but I'm guessing he's too old to make a run at this point. He turned 49 two weeks ago so you could probably get 1 movie out of him before you have to move on. I think he's missed the window.

All of this talk about the new Bond has made me realize how much I liked Daniel Craig as Bond. He has been fantastic. Hope they don't screw up the new hire.

He can play straight…you know ACT straight! Straight and gay actors have been acting the other side for years.

Madden may not have publicly come out yet, but it's been fairly common knowledge, at least in Hollywood, as he's been photographed with a fling or boyfriend or two before. He could also be bi. I'm not 100% sure.

Based on the first Silva scene in Skyfall...may be appropriate for Bond.

I just looked up madden and don't recognize him at all. Idk his acting chops but just from looking at him, id prefer taron egerton over him all day.

Still my favorite pick. He has the rugged feel of the Craig era without being a Craig clone. There's a touch of the Bond charm, but not overdone like I think it would be with someone like Cavill.

As long as they keep 'rugged authentic Bond' and don't go back to 'posh Bond' like we saw with Moore and Pierce (great in their own right but those kind of films just don't work today) I'll be happy.

Madden would be intriguing as well. Very much fits that "hides behind his mask" persona of Bond and really showed that in The Bodyguard. If they wanted to go a tad darker to emphasize a slightly more 'emotionless' Bond, he'd be a great pick.

It's probably just me, but I don't see Fassbender as Bond. He can easily do rugged and ruthless, but I'm not surenive ever seen him do charming or suave

I still like the idea of idris elba. I mean if he can play a Norse demi-God why can't he play bond.

i've suggested it before, but i'd love to see them put "james bond" on the shelf for a bit and expand the Double-O section of MI-6. think of all the awesome films you could make without worrying whether someone "can be james bond".

wouldn't it be cool to develop different spy characters to be played by idris elba, dev patel, tom hardy, emily blunt, and whoever else?
TCTTS

That's a great idea, and a fresh take. Maybe do like an MI-6 show/series that delves into the 00 program. And then, after season or two, introduce the newest spy, 007, via a movie, who shakes (but doesn't stir) things up.

Or make the show about a bunch of trainees trying to get their 00 status, a prequel if you will. I'm not sure how you would do it, perhaps they get numbers instead of names, so we don't exactly know who James Bond is until the end of the limited series, and then it launches a new film series.

This was my complaint about Skyfall. I like James Bond being a persona owned by MI-6, assigned to Agent 007 and reissued after death/retirement of the current bond.

That....is intriguing. Kind of like the first Kingsman film where they were basically having tryouts for a spot on the round table

i just remember reading that the Broccoli's wanted to get in on the "expanded universe" trend and i saw them talking about spinoffs for M and moneypenny. i just don't think that's the most interesting way to expand your universe.

i was thinking more like the MCU where you pick a solid director and pair him/her with a name actor and let them make an awesome spy movie in their own voice without all of the baggage that goes with it being a "bond film".

Well, they did something similar when bringing in Jeremy Renner for the one-off Bourne movie, and it seems to be treated as though it never existed.

Building a story with a new 00 agent would be good if they made sure the story went somewhere. I'd be interested in that for sure.

they tried that with renner in the mission impossible movies too. so maybe the lesson is not to have jeremy renner be one of the Double-O agents

but whether it be a movie or a limited series, i'd just really like to see them try something fresh and different.
