I liked Spectre. Nowhere near Casino Royale of course or even Skyfall but better than QoS.

And in the long run of bond films even QoS is probably middle of the pack or just below and Spectre is probably Top 10 off the top of my head.

There were a bunch of bad bond films - A View To a Kill, Octo*****, several Brosnan ones, both of the Dalton ones, a few Moore films and even a couple of Connery ones. Any decent Bond film is automatically ahead of 10+ bad to average ones.

I'd still put QoS over all Brosnan films except Goldeneye, both Dalton films and all the Roger Moore ones except The Spy Who Loved Me.

I think Dalton was very underrated, but had terrible scripts to deal with.

Connery's first four were great, the rest, not so much.

I think there are only 5-7 really good Bond films.

Dr No
From Russia With Love
Goldfinger
Casino Royale
Skyfall

Thunderball and Goldeneye are up there, but I don't think they're quite as good as the other five.

The Spy Who Loved Me and On Her Majesty's Secret Service are both good.

I think QoS gets a bad rap overall, but I enjoyed it. The problem was that it followed up Casino Royale, arguably the best bond film EVER. There's just not much else they could have done following the masterpiece that was Craig's debut as 007.

Whatever happens with Bond, I just hope they don't get away from what has made the character/films so great. Exotic locations, gadgets, cars, villains, girls, drinks, humor, espionage, and missions. The arc of the Craig Bond was new and fresh, and worked well overall, but I want Bond to get back to just having a mission, getting the girl(s) and just kicking ass with wit and good charm.

I was listening to James Bonding (a great podcast by Nerdist) and they recommended to watch QoS right after Casino, as they viewed it as a Casino part 2. I found that while I liked QoS by itself okay, it was more enjoyable to it watch back to back with Casino.

I'll go you one further...

1. Casino Royale
2. Goldfinger
3. Skyfall
4. From Russia With Love
5. Dr. No

And I'm a Connery loyalist.
I can't argue too much with that. I'd elevate FRWL to the top, and keep the rest in the same order.

1. From Russia With Love
2. Casino Royale
3. Goldfinger
4. Skyfall
5. Dr. No

I feel the same way. QoS is better on subsequent viewings IMO.

Let's switch it up a bit. Top 5 "Guilty Pleasure" Bond Films -- the ones that you love anyway, flaws be damned.

1. Diamonds Are Forever -- Yeah, Connery kind of mails it in, but the rest of the cast is fantastic. Jill St. John is my favorite Bond girl. And how can any red blooded American male forget Plenty O'Toole?

2. For Your Eyes Only -- The last good Roger Moore Bond. Also one of the least campy of the Moore Bonds, Holly Johnson and hockey fights notwithstanding. Bonus points for having a Lotus Esprit Turbo return as Bond's car.

3. Tomorrow Never Dies -- Consistently underrated, IMO. Great supporting cast. Yes, the villain's plot is too similar to The Spy Who Loved Me. But let's face it, most of the villain plots can be reduced to either blackmailing the world with nuclear weapons or tricking other nations into starting WWIII.

4. OHMSS -- Criminally underappreciated. Listen to this: https://www.theincomparable.com/ump/43/

5. Live and Let Die -- Jane Seymour. And the best theme song. What else do you really need?

Your top 3 "guilty pleasure" Bonds match up with mine. I might flip 1 and 2 is all though.

I enjoy all Brosnan films as guilty pleasures. (Maybe Die Another Day not so much.)

Agreed. It works better as a Casino Royale Extended Edition.

1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - I know all the issues with this film and I get it... but I love this movie

2. You Only Live Twice - It gets dumber as I rewatch it, but it was the first Bond film I watched and it hooked me. Some fun scenes like the little bird.

3. Moonraker - So so dumb. And yet it's still fun.

4. Tomorrow Never Dies - I liked the villain. Thought it was different.

5. A View to a Kill - Listen to "How did this get made" for all the reasons this movie is awesomely terrible.

I don't get the hate for the Dalton Bond movies. I thought they were fantastic, Dalton was very near the equal to Connery as Bond at Connery's height in the role.

His last had one of the series all time best exchanges of dialogue:
Sanchez - what line of business are you in?
Bond - I help people with problems.
Sanchez - oh, so you're a problem solver?
Bond (with a sarcastic grin) - no, more a problem eliminator.
To which Sanchez laughed heartily.

My top 5
From Russia With Love
The Living Daylights
License to Kill
Goldfinger
You Only Live Twice (this was the first Bond movie I ever saw, so it's probably a nostalgia factor here)

My favorite bad Bond: The Man With the Golden Gun
I actually wouldn't hate to see this one remade, but I am a sucker for it when it's on even though it's a horrible movie. My dad had a carved elephant from Bangkok exactly like the one the kid is selling when Bond shoves him out of the boat, and I'd give anything to know where it went. Either way, the completely wasted Christopher Lee and a badass villain in Scaramanga, but how can you not love the fun house manhunt for as dumb as it was. Plus Mary Goodnight. And Nick Nack!

Very surprised to see minimal Live and Let Die fans on here. Jane Seymour....yowza... Kanaga... Baron Samedi...

it's maybe a guilty pleasure of mine rather than a top 5

My Guilty Pleasure (And Most Rewatched) Top 5

1. The Man with the Golden Gun - Car stunt slide whistle and the shoe in of JW Peppa. Also my favorite locations of all the bond Movies.

2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - My favorite Bond Movie Theme

3. Live and Let Die - Kananga Balloon

4. You Only Live Twice - The overtly racist Bond to Japanese man transformation. And knowing Connery was miserable during the whole shoot makes it even more enjoyable.

5. Octopussay - The quintessential campy Bond movie. And Louis Jardin is one of my favorite villains.

Craig finally announced on Colbert tonight that he's officially back for one last go. Says he wants "to go out on top," which could be interpreted as a slight dig against Spectre. Either way, I can't wait. Anxious to see how they plan on wrapping this whole thing up.

"His name's Jaws...he kills people."

Good gawd I laugh everytime I hear that line. Will always be one of my favorite Bond films and it's so dumb at the same time.

I consider Moonraker to be the "Commando" of James Bond films

How long do you want to ignore this user?
The spy who loved me
Skyfall
The living daylights (easily the most under rated Bond film)
The first 2/3 of moonraker (the last one third was a farce disguised as a movie)

Among the rest, nothing really stands out.

I saw Skyfall in theaters a couple hours after we beat Bama in 2012. May not be fair to the other movies in the franchise, but that package deal will never be topped.

To be honest, I really have no problem with this. OHMSS is one of those that serious Bond fans have strong opinions about, but the casual (and/or younger) Bond fan probably hasn't seen and has no idea how the film ends. This ending would probably be a good way for Craig to ride off into the sunset.

To be fair, Diana Rigg was an absolute smoke show in OHMSS and carried it. Damn Lazenby and his cleft chin

How about David Niven as Bond in Casino Royale 1960s ? With Peter Sellers. Son said it was more of a comedy .

Amazon has it for $3.99 . My next rental .
