Finished License to Kill to wrap up the far too short Timothy Dalton era in my rewatch. Excited to see Goldeneye again and tune out for like 75% of the next three movies. Will drop a definitive ranking of the Bond franchise when I finish everything up, can't wait to find out I have somebody's 8th favorite Bond movie at 14th and how ridiculous that is.

For Bond Themes I don't know that I could ever rank all of them properly, any list I've ever seen does a really bad job at it. I'd say my Top 10 looks like this though:

1. Skyfall
2. Goldfinger
3. Goldeneye
4. License to Kill
5. You Know My Name
6. The Living Daylights
7. Live and Let Die
8. You Only Live Twice
9. Thunderball
10. Diamonds are Forever

Honorable mentions going out to All Time High, Nobody Does It Better, A View to a Kill, and The World is Not Enough. There are very few bad ones in my opinion.

Editing to add: John Barry's instrumental themes are all pretty good too. Dr. No is iconic of course but From Russia and OHMSS are good as well. It's hard to compare them to something like Adele or Shirley Bassey singing though.

Die Another Day is the worst Bond theme song.

Ever.

And it's not even a close race between that one and whatever would be second worst.
I haven't heard about half of them, but I would agree with that.

I am not a Billie Eilish fan, and was both confused and disappointed when she was announced.

This is fantastic. Definitely the second best of the Craig era. I like how moody and somber it is.

I absolutely love it as well. So good. So perfectly Bond. She knocked it out of the park.

As much as I hate Billie Eilish and think she's an over-hyped, mass-produced product of the music industry promotional machine, I don't hate the song. I feel like it fits completely into this chapter of the Bond movies.

But for f***'s sake mumble mouth, annunciate your words. Your whole teen angst thing has been done by thousands of better artists over multiple generations at this point.

On a different topic, in this day and age where everybody wants to rip on remakes and clamor for new ideas, the Bond movies starring Daniel Craig have been the best ones in the history of Bond movies. And I grew up watching Connery, Moore, and in Brosnan and loving them at the time.

Love the music and the lyrics. The tone is wonderfully dark and the little guitar riff at the end said "Bond" to me.

I'm not a fan (yet) of her vocals. I listened to it first on AirPods and just could not tell what she was singing. I pulled out my B&W headphones and it was much better (obviously) but still had to listen. I'll listen again on my loudspeakers and see what it does for me.

I know it would never happen but I would love to hear David Draiman do this in the same style as his Sound of Silence cover.

I don't like the song. The music is good but I coukd not undertand the lyrics. Granted, I gave up after two.minutes but it was too slow.

Mass-produced from the bedroom in their house? Haha

Like the song and the slow build. All songs do not need some powerful voice going at full bore to be good.

I don't know, man. A girl and her brother recording an album that they wrote in her bedroom kind of seems like the opposite of what you're talking about. And I didn't have a problem understanding the words. I like her.

It......doesn't do anything for me. It just never gets going and is so damn quiet. This is a Bond movie, dammit...not a funeral.

This song sounds almost the same as the very last song to me. It's "The Writing's on the Wall", just sung by a woman instead of a man.

Sorry. It's not bad, just nothing special. I miss the old style of Bond themes.

I like it well enough... it does feel like it's 20 seconds away from becoming really great though. Wish it swelled into something a bit more in the end.

Crazy to think she was only four when Casino Royale came out.

Given what we know about the story line though maybe that's appropriate after all. I will say it is kind of odd how it doesn't seem to build in intensity like a lot of Bond themes do. I still enjoyed it.

You don't have to go back to For Your Eyes Only to find a worse Bond song.

I'll be the first to say that I'm not a fan of Billie, but I do like the song. The somberness fits with this being Craig's last film. That being said, I wish it picked up at the end like most of the Bond themes do.

so after the first listen to just the audio, i can't say i loved it. didn't exactly hate it either, just ambivalent. probably helps that i have a teenage daughter and i've heard enough billie eilish that it's almost exactly what i was expecting it to be.

But...when you paired it with the footage in the above-video, it just really worked for me. so i don't know that i'll ever love just the song, but if they pair it with the right opening sequence, i think it could be really cool.

Didn't say her music was, but the hype around her as the next greatest, most amazing young musical genius is absolutely a product of the music industry machine.

And no one is complaining that her voice isn't a powerful voice going full bore. Read the actual comments again.

Agreed, I think it works really well with the edit. My hope for this movie is only growing.

It also releases on my birthday so I've got my celebratory evening planned

i wasn't actually referring to his acting ability. i know he can act, although i don't think he deserved best actor and i didn't love his performance in that one.

my concern is more about what kind of villain he's going to play. his strength would seem to be dialing up the creep factor, but we just saw bardem absolutely nail that in skyfall. so i guess i'm worried that malek's going to seem like a bad karaoke version of bardem's silva.

I just re-watched The Pacific last week, and had completely forgotten that Rami Malek was in that show...

I know it was a decade ago, but I think just that simple role shows he can do more than be creepy (even if it wasn't great acting at the time). I think he'll play the villain as completely disillusioned and heartless - not the tortured soul with righteous justifications for his actions that Bardem played. I think he will just not care what happens to anyone.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't "get" Billie Eilish. Tried a couple of times and it didn't click for me. But "No Time to Die" wasn't as bad as I'd feared. I wonder if other artists could have been better, but I'm alright with it.

In the long run, I could see it being borderline top ten in the Bond theme anthology.
