Nah, he would have come up with an excuse not to play. It would just have been a year of pointless drama.

I dont know but we'd have been legit contenders just like we were the last time he played.

I don't think so. Still think the Warriors would be tough with their big 3-4. I think they could of possibly made it to the conference finals if Kawhi played. Also, not sure how Aldridge would have been taking a step back and having Kawhi be the guy again.

But like Lawhall88 said Kawhi could have sit out for the season again and drama still continuing.

I don't think he would have sat out. For one thing I think the Spurs could/would take legal action if it came to that. Second, it wouldn't come to that because Kawhi wouldn't want to tank his value as a FA being two years removed from a basketball court.

Congrats on being a Raptors fan. At least for now.

Players are more important than coach...I'll always hate Kawhi for how he left, but he's damn good

You could make a strong argument that Kawhi is no where near the player he is today without the development and coaching of Pop and the front office.

That's fair, but give me players over coach and front office.

For every Pop there is Ty Lue who is winning games

There's also a whole lot more Vinny Del Negro, Mark Jackson, and Scott Brooks type coaches that underachieve with super talented rosters.

The problem with your theory is you need a solid management team in order to identify and develop the talent to begin with. Kawhi was a 15th pick and was acquired by trading Hill who was a 30th pick and developed into a valuable chip. Kawhi followed a program put in place by Spurs coaching staff and to his credit has become a superstar. Does he do the same if he gets drafted by the Wizards or Suns?

PATFO (and the Spurs culture created by them and the Duncan-era players) get a ton of credit for developing Kawhi, and even more credit for the sustained run of success over the past 20 years.

That said, Kawhi is an incredibly efficient defensive and offensive player and relatively easy to build a championship contending team around.

If you set aside the emotions, it's much more likely that we'd be able to contend with Kawhi and a different staff, than without Kawhi and with the current staff.

The Kawhi divorce is the defining moment for the post-Duncan Spurs franchise and will likely remain so for many years.

I agree...there's no doubt it takes all, but the question is who do you want....I'll take the players over coach and front office everyday.

Pop is great
Front office is great
But I want Kawhi over DeRozan (and maybe that's the best we could've gotten since Kawhi was a dumbass .....but I still want Kawhi)

Sure I agree that at this moment in time you'd be better off. You look at a franchise like Cleveland who basically always sucks unless they get lucky and land the greatest player of all time for a few years. Long term I give the Spurs organization a better shot at finding the next Kawhi or Manu than almost all other franchises.

Yes, but you don't get this current superstar version of Kawhi without Pop and the front office. If Kawhi was some sure fire future superstar coming out of college, he wouldn't have been picked at the back end of the lottery.

Charlotte gave him ten million reasons. That's the point of him going there

TP has retired. I thought he wanted to come back as a SPUR for a day to retire.

Oh well! Still the greastest PG in SPURS history.

I didn't realize that Parker made all NBA 6 times. Personally I was never that big of a fan of Parker, the person, but am grateful for what he gave to this franchise.

In other news, looks like Messina is under contract negotiations to coach Milan. Guess everyone is getting the hell out of Dodge. Becky as a head coach doesn't seem so far fetched now.

Quote:

What was the difference between playing with the Spurs and playing with the Hornets?

For 17 years, every year that I started with the Spurs, I really thought that we had a good chance to win the championship. And so it was very weird to arrive to a team and you're like, 'There is no way we're going to win the championship.' And even if I had a great time and the Charlotte players, they were great with me and they were great guys at the end of the day I play basketball to win something, and it's been like that with the [French] national team when we try to compete for a gold medal or with the Spurs to win a championship.

And if I don't play for a championship, I feel like, why are we playing? And so that's why it was very different for me mentally to focus and get motivated to play a game that I love, because I want to win something.
It's a sad way to end a career.

First seeing Timmy go, then Manu, then the whole Kawhi situation.

Still, we'll always have the Big 3 era to look back fondly on.

**** YOU, ZAZA.

This is correct. ESPN had All NBA first but switched it to all star. I thought something was off.

I have always felt that is more important to Pop than anything else.

He wants to be the one that hands the keys to the first female NBA head coach.

Truly the end of an era with TP retiring. I wish he could have retired a Spur, but he got to leave the game on his terms and not due to injury. Merci Tony.
